Finnish flag seen in videos

After noticing it from a couple of the previous videos and now seeing it in the combat preview as well, I guess I can somewhat assume Finland is going to be involved in some way (yay for my home country! Now to hope they are not some primary antagonist of the story… Seen the flags on the enemy side a bit too often). Unfortunately, Finland did not become independent within the Middle Ages, and did not have it’s modern day flag back then, it was designed at a later point (1918 to be precise). We were a part of Sweden, then Russia, then broke to our own path… Anyway, I cannot help but hope this is some lookalike flag, even if it kinda crashes my dreams of seeing my home country play a role, as historical consistency should be maintained.

Or have I mistaken it for some other flag? Are my eyes at fault here?

Yes, you are wrong. The flag you’ve seen several times is the flag of the Teutonic Knights probably beeing part of the story. It’s a black cross on white ground. There is already a discussion about, but it is in german.

Ah, okay. That’s what you get when you start seeing things you hope you are seeing. Who wouldn’t want to see their home country in a game they like? Anyway, thanks for correcting me!

Hey man, keep your country for some kick-ass game with vikings and stuff like that

Finns weren’t vikings though. Vikings came from nowaday Norway-Sweden-Denmark. Sure, they travelled the world a lot, especially vikings from the swedish area travelled east to nowaday Russia via the finnish gulf, so they traded with the Finns most likely (and probably a fair amount of plundering as well.) But the Finns were a completely different people… aaand they were also still kind of in their iron age until Sweden conquered them in the 1100’s, and had no written history prior to that.

If a game was to be made about vikings, then I don’t think Finland would be an interesting setting. You mostly associate them with their raids in france and the british isles, but I would like to see the vikings that went east. Those who set up trade routes and formed city states in Russia (russians don’t like the theory that the state of Rus, and the origin of their country’s name, was formed by vikings), and went further south-east down the rivers to end up and serve as elite bodyguards in the Byzantine empire.

Its not finland as far as I know. Since as you said, it wasnt formed yet. The flag is the flag of Teutonic knights and other various crussaders

There are probably going to be Hungarians in the game.

the black cross is hre flag. the red cross is hre war flag.

red flag with white double tail lion is bohemia flag

yellow flag with black eagle and white crescent is silesia

red flag with double eagle is poland

Are you talking about the flag on the battlefield? That’s not flag of Bohemia. It’s the flag of the Königsberg.

Your lion has bigger crown, tails are different. It’s Bohemia flag. IMO.

The pictures on the flags are probably placeholders because most of the symbols looks very polished with regular shapes. The contemporary symbols weren’t so polished since every flag was hand made and based on some medieval sketches. The picture by UAJII is good example of how the symbols on flags and etc. should look like.

Do you see the black cross above the flag? Why would Teutonic Knights carry Bohemian flag?

Ahh, now i see it. Narrow white flag with black cross. You were right.
