Realistic Distance/Travel

So I was reading this (now a little old) blog pointed out in another thread. I read the following (Source http://warhorsestudios.cz/index.php?page=blog&entry=blog_011&lang=en )

“Will the player like it when he/she wants to go from town A to town B to travel a long time on a horseback? The travel speed of a horse is ca 25km/h, so it makes a kilometre in ca 2.5 minutes. If the towns are two kilometres distant as the crow flies and the horse travels a bit faster than in reality, such a journey will take the player more than five minutes. Five minutes is a long time in a game, especially if you travel through a landscape which is not lunar and you constantly see your destination in the distance on the horizon and approach it very slowly. And what if the player goes on foot across a meadow that is not a classically compressed place but a real one-hundred-metre meadow? Overcoming it takes ca 1 minute of walking, a sprint some 13 seconds. Is it a too much or little?”

So I want to give my answer! You did not create an error. There’s no reason you need to worry about fast travel. Especially if you add in a carriage system. I might want to sit and relax in the carriage and enjoy the view (wearing the Oculus Rift) Perhaps while traveling we might be accosted by bandits or end up in the middle of a war zone and suddenly need to jump into action or hope the driver can flee. Prompting a diplomatic or forceful measure.

I know it’s a little late to be giving my opinion on a pretty old blog, but there you have it. @Hellboy I think you’re doing well.

Why do you open a new thread when you have responded to the following thread?

And Dan already wrote a similar response in the mentioned thread like the copied blog post. I’m also wondering how it comes you’re writing so many über-positive posts in a row.

Thanks bro. I’m a pretty positive person. I try to respond reasonably and logically to things which may sound negative at times, but the last several things I’ve read have been things I find very uplifting and so I had many positive things to say ^_^. I’ll repeat my positive dream comment. I believe anyone with a dream can achieve it (please don’t let it be world domination…I like my freedom) the only one who stands in our way are ourselves. One day I will become Hokage! Wait… I mean one day I hope to build a world famous casino! (Yes that’s the right dream) That is my dream and I’m working towards it every year earning more and more money than the year before. Finding new ways to do things learning as much as I can stretching higher and higher. It may take 30 years, but one day I will achieve my dream. Just like everyone here can achieve theirs.
