Maybe the already available TPV from cryengine can be added to the settings and marked as an experimental option (unsupported/use at your own risk)? This way with not to much work/resources a lot of people can be satisfied… eventually.

I really don’t give a flying fuck, so stick your first person head up your first person ass and enjoy the view. I imagine it’s nice and cozy up there with all your FPV friends.
