Basically, some people are asking on the forums of what they want the game to be. I for one, do not want this game dumbed in any way, just because people think it will be “too hard”. If you think the combat will be hard, then actually stop whining, and start training the day the game comes out. I want the combat to be tough. That’s what will make it rewarding and exciting. If you don’t want too much gore or nudity in this game, then too bad. The height of the middle ages was extremely violent and dark. If you’re afraid that you’re parents won’t buy you this game because it’s too violent, then too bad. The game is supposed to be like that, It’s not called realistic for nothing. And lastly, for those that expect the “next-gen” consoles to be as good as the PC version, that is an outright lie. Consoles are not as powerful as PC, PC has been “next gen” for many years. Unless you cannot afford a new graphics card or processor, or simply don’t have the time to upgrade, don’t go to consoles just because “your friends are there”, or that your “rig is powerful enough” but you prefer a controller and a home theater set-up with consoles. You can do an exact thing with PC’s. It’s called an HDMI cable and plugging in an Xbox controller, vis USB. This is a single player game, not to mention the fact that the brilliant modders will probably make a multiplayer version of this game. All so dark! So gritty! So realistic! Well, the last one isn’t even ironic.
Look, the extremely “dark and gritty” image in your head stems from Hollywood clichés and “muddyevil” movies. -Especially- the later medieval periods were NOT dark, were NOT gritty, and very, very colourful.

Of course I won’t argue that wars have been waged, and people have been killed in gruesome ways (just like today, only that it’s much easier to kill a man, and from very long distances), but it was not the cliché of dark, brown, grey and gritty.

That’s low fantasy.

I agree with that a challenging game is great. I agree with that it shouldn’t be dumbed down in difficulty or gameplay. But stop the fuck talking about “extremely gritty and dark”. Jesus.

I think your post comes across as very arrogant, especially your comments regarding the console editions of this game. While I agree with some of what you are saying I do not agree with the way you are saying it.

No, I do want this game to be “dumbed down” to the level that everybody who plays Farmville on Facebook is wanting to play it. However, some concessions for play-ability’s sake are likely to be made and I have no problem with this as I trust Warhorse’s judgement in such matters. If these possible concessions prove to be an issue for you personally then I’m sure there will be modders out there thinking likewise and attempting to change it (or you could take the time to learn the tools yourself).

No, I do not want the game to feature any multiplayer/co-op/horde/survival modes but this is simply because these will require time/resources to be spent creating and then testing them which I believe can be better spent on improving the Single Player game. I am NOT dismissing these modes out of hand just because of what they are; if Warhorse decided to add these in after the 3 acts of the SP game are complete I would be very happy in fact.

And I don’t think anyone is under the impression that the PC version will not be superior to the console releases (if for no other reason than the PC release will support modding), but I seriously doubt that the overall presentation of visual, sound and gameplay elements will be largely diminished on other platforms. Textures will be of lower quality perhaps, additional visual or physics elements may be missing and there may be no support for Occulus Rift, but the CORE GAME will likely still be at the level of what is available to the PC gaming market.

Compromising is just as necessary an ability when conversing with people on the internet as it is with designing a game.

This game will be as dark and gritty as any other nation at any period of the time that was during political turmoil a civil war, which is to say nothing ‘extra-special’, take a quick look at history around that time and most of the ‘civilized world’ was doing through some sort of change, its a very human condition.

do they think the sun wasn’t invented by then? :slight_smile:

of course it hurts in the eye to see a colorful world, i have no problem if it would be dulled down a bit.
and for what i saw so far, it looks to be a good compromise.

The period after the reformation was way darker.
Large scale executions of heretics and witches. Religious wars in europe. The 30year was was just as destructive to central Europe as the first world war…
And just look at how boring a modern protestan Church is. all white and no color.

Yeah the Renaissance (the reformation happened during this greater overarching period) was quite dark even though it’s name means something about enlightenment. Part of this was due to the secularization of the culture and division in the church. During the middle-ages the culture in Europe was very religious and so it was lighter in general than later times(believe it or not). You could equate it with the difference between post revolutionary war and modern U.S… Although the later time had more advanced technology the earlier time had a more established set of morals.

@AhmadKhan I totally agree. One could argue that even our current “civilized society” is dark and gritty. I’m sure those living in war zones, communist, totalitarian or authoritarian countries, and extreme poverty aren’t enjoying it.

If it was as dark and gritty as possible, then it wouldn’t be as realistic as possible, and vice versa. Too many movies and too little research led us to this shameful situation. Hopefully, Warhorse will correct it with an awesome game.

I take matt4G to mean by dark and gritty, not colorless and not without joy but looking from todays perspective. People didnt live as long as today, they didnt have the medical technology that we have today. People were much more accustomed to death than now. But to the people of the time their lives just seemed normal. You dont see it in movies, but arrows and wounds werent the causes of most deaths it was infection, childbirth, some doctor thinking you were to pale and needed to be bled. But as far as daily life it probably wasn’t bad to them. We should never judge people from the past by the standards of today.
