Darklands is an awesome game. A bit like mount and blade, in that it has an overworld map, text based screens for some exploration/events and a ā3dā combat engine.
It also has a high middle ages realistic HRE setting, but just slightly tweaks the mix by adding in religion taken at face value (so relics/saints can cause miracles), and a very small amount of existing German fantasy of the time, so the wild hunt, kobolds etc.
I actually thought the slight kick of fantasy improved the mix. But the exciting thing about KCD is that it allows sequels to be set around Europe very easily if it is successful.
