I can imagine a tournament being held in the enemy kingdom, and you are sent there to WIN the tournament and DRASTICALLY reduce the moral of the enemy.

I’d like to have the ability to ransom knights that have yielded/I’ve captured in battle. However I’m not sure how accurate this would be with regards to the time period.
I’d also imagine you’ll be able to craft items which you can sell, steal and perform tasks for cash.
I’d hope there will be some system of buying and selling items based on demand in different areas.

I am indeed aware of the fact, that there are more appropriate words to describe the trade mechanism which i mentioned. Though I also wanted to make sure to avoid any confusion about this issue, since the TO mentioned money trading at first and my thoughts on this issue should augment the discussion and not only mentioning the same things again. To do this, i used the simple term “trade things for things”, which as far as i am concerned describes the intention i had very well. :wink:
No, honestly, “to barter” is the right verb in this context. @Saltystew is totally right.

Oh i really hope for a system like this. I remember something like this was used before in M&B, if I’m not completely wrong here. Some simple demand implementation should not be that difficult in my opinion, but I’m no game developer, so however they are doing it, It’ll probably the best thing since sliced bread (because Warhorse devs are just awesome :wink: ).

If the game will take place in the 15th century on the territory of the Czech Kingdom and the country will be on the brink of civil war, one of the very profitable way to earn some cash should be smuggling. On the Czech kingdom, rulled by Hussite, embargo was imposed by the Pope. This, of course, very well used buyers from Silesia and Moravia (though these countries were Catholic). Polish smugglers also not idle.

PS: Who would be interested in about this time, and the Czech countries at this time, to know more, I recommend books by A. Sapkowski, Narretrum (the whole trilogy is great). They are in it, although elements of fantasy (magic, supernatural beings, etc.), but in its description of the life of “ordinary” people, this book is great

hijacking, bounty hunting would be fun. But also honestly earning our life by sharing madecine knowledge or perhaps by singing in lords courts when you’re a bard. Stealing as a thief by entering in houses or castles.

Getting married was also a very used way to get money :blush:

I would add these ways to get money:

  • begging / storytelling
  • prostitution (of yourself or your vassal-woman)
  • playing a music instrument
  • killing for money (mini quests)
  • pretending to be a priest (and beging for the church)
    (all ways will influence your fame greatly!!) :slight_smile:

I hope money is rare. One thing that kills the experience for me is when I can become so rich that money no longer has value to me. It’s made infinity worse when it happens quickly. If I can buy the best gear available in just a few hours of non-power gaming play then a lot of the game is lost for me.

I wonder if there were scams back then… oh yea, there were. All kinds of scams, from Miracle All-Cures to rigging a fistfight match.

Since you CAN play as the worlds “villain”, I’d like to see some form of “villain of the shadows”. No, I’m not talking about playing a stealthy thief, I’m saying you can be the Con Artist. Stealing stuff in the night, amateur stuff… Convincing people to give you all their belongs LEGALLY (or semi-legally) is the pro stuff right there. However, the art of making (let along, inventing) contracts back then will probably never happen in-game…

I would especially on “dark” elements in the game are happy (pocketing, burglaries, stolen goods, etc.) may, one could indeed work in a highly thieves guild.

What about casual employment for blacksmiths/lumberjacks/Fletchers/Farmers/bar-tending etc (similar to what was done in Fable II). As the son of a blacksmith it would make sense to be able to use the skills presumably learned by your father to make some money. I agree with @Ser_Awesome that money should not be easily earned and so these jobs should not pay particularly well (historically I doubt that such jobs would bring much wealth anyway unless you owned the business/land) but perhaps they should act as a starting point.

I completely agree with this, 100%. I hate games where that happens, and on top of that its really bad where the game is super fun and all the things that you can do to get money are super fun but they give to much money, so you get rich to quickly and then you have to limit your enjoyment or use of those fun activities, which really sucks.

Less typical ways of getting coin like farming, fishing, or collecting vegetables for farmers and ore rocks for blacksmiths could be nice and immersive. Elder scrolls 5 had that (But who ever did that in TES 5).
