Caves & lighting

Hello, it’s me again and again about lighting, but not blinding Sun this time but dark caves. Or light caves to be precise.
(look at this video from the set time)

I know there is opening in the cave’s ceiling, but it seems to me, there is too much scattered light around.
Is it game design decision, or something caused by Global Illumination? If latter, then I understand it’s still good trade-off.

But if it could be changed, It would be more natural in my opinion to make the cave darker with sharp shadows.
