Achievement ideas

And that right there is double the work you need to implement achievements themselves. No matter, I’m not talking programmatical implementation - I’m talking implementation of the idea. That includes brainstorming, design, balancing and the programming part as well. The entire process of implementing achievements gets much, much more complicated if you want to go with a custom solution as opposed to industry standard.

My boss is also Czech. He once said “You’ve got more important stuff to do than that” :stuck_out_tongue:

I acknowledged that part already.

OK, yet another excuse. So what? (To which you could answer: Yet another way, so what, let’s strike it down and offer some more excuses. How pointless. To which I would say: Let’s not be so negative. Indulging in wild ideas does no harm and some people enjoy it.)

Well, “only 10 percent of gamers actually complete the games they purchase.” so the industry as a whole is probably doing something wrong  http://www.gamefront.com/why-dont-gamers-finish-games/

If you don’t want any notifications you have two possiblities (at least while playing on Steam): go to offline mode or turn off the Steam overlay. In both cases you won’t get any achievement notifications while playing (you might get them when you go online the next time in case you were in offline mode).

You are confusing “I hate achievements because they are invariably stupid” with “I don’t care about achievements at all”. Don’t tell people to suck it up and go along with achievements. Most of them, for what I’m reading, would apreciate well implemented achivements… As long as they are well done. Which they most likely won’t, because everybody and his dog has a different idea of what is a worthy achievement. The logical conclusion is that better no achievements than bad achievements.

You miss the point that even bad achievements do absolutely no harm to anyone. That’s just a fact.

You should definitely play The Stanley Parable. The best humor in an indy game I’ve experienced for a long long time. The Achievements are something like “Click on door 430 five times” or “Beat the game” or “Go outside”, which means don’t play the game for 5 years or “Commitment” which is playing the game the whole Tuesday. And there is the best achievement of all called “Unachievable”. So yeah, it’s a really mean game if it’s about achievements.

programming and art graphic time better spent elsewhere imho.

That’s a valid point. I just doubt that you need much of both for the implementation of achievements. And the ideas for them usually come on the fly (like while sitting on the toilet), so almost no time for them is wasted during development.

Like if an achievement takes hours to implement. It’s just an “if x has value y then show fancy achievement” programming.

Yes they do. I’m a completionist, but silly (being generous) achievements are pointless, and put my head into an unsolvable dilemma. Seriously.

LOL :stuck_out_tongue:

Now that’s an argument!

not even one second spent on it is ideal for me

I think that argument has already been resolved previously? Games with achievements sell better. So, in extension, you don’t want Warhorse to spend even a second on a menial task which will mean that more resources can be allocated towards the future titles? Curious approach. And not particularily smart in the long run.

I’d like to add some more ideas for achievements.

Pacifist: Complete the game without killing a human.

I am not sure, if this is possible, but I think this would comply with a strict bard playstyle. For self-defence you could still use blunt weapons to knock out enemies.

Master Assassin: Assassinate Sigismund without being detected.

It would be alternate history, but you could also use another major opponent as a target. I imagine it would be rather difficult to sneak into the guarded personal chambers of a lord and escaping after the murder without anyone noticing you.

Big Bad Wolf: Let your dog attack a child.

If you think this is inappropriate, it can be changed to a reward for a special quest (e.g. “Hunt down the kid-devouring wolf”).

Secret Agent: Infiltrate Sigismund’s army.

This could be the reward for an optional quest (line) offered to thief players.

I hope for no achivement in this game like in most other game!

Achivement like having a sharped blade after sharpen it…ok
Having food after cooking it…ok

Thing like that… any other shit like mining X number of sylver or iron and than get the achivement of super miner…
Realy boring and nothing to do with this promising game!

So i hope for no game candy like achivement.
