Animated door opening

Hello @warhorse , @TobiTobsen
congratulations on your progress in the last video update! Its pleasing to see Deliverance getting bigger and better every time we see it.
In the last video update you presented alchemy system which IMHO looks great! But what caught my attention is that door opening wasn’t animated. I know its a very early stage of game development, but still I feel obligated to point that out.
In the video player opened the door, and it just opened from thin air. It will be far better if there is an animation actually showing player’s hand opening the door. Its not such a big deal, but given the fact your team try to improve realism in everything, it will be a lot nicer if there is a properly animated door opening.
Once again, maybe your team considers implementing this in the future, I don’t know. Nonetheless, thank you for your time and will appreciate if you consider this small, but important animation to reach some future version of Deliverance.

Exactly  we are creating and developing a basis right now with most of the features. The pretty things and polishing comes later, but it’s on our mind. Don’t worry

If we have animated door opening please allow us to open at different speeds say if there are enemies in doors a pet hate for many shooters you can’t tactically clear doored rooms as they swing all the way open…

why are you comparing this game to tactical shooters? variable door opening just wouldn’t make sense here

Well, I actually think it would make a lot of sense and it would be a great detail to get us immersed in the game.
Imagine entering a shop, a tavern, a chapel or just a friend’s house. You would probably have a peaceful attitude and you would open the door like you always do.
But now imagine a door to a shop or house you want to brutally rob, or like @Potter said a door which has enemies right behind it, it’d be super nice to be able to kick/smash in the door for a more surprising and dramatic show-up.

Thinking of the whole door topic, I thought of another useful feature for the thief. Will you be able to look through the keyholes like in many other stealthy titles? To me that seems like a relatively easily created feature that would be very nice to have.

Somebody played too much Medal of Honor.

well you don’t just rush into a house that might have someone armed if there behind the door etc

I would like it to be like in Mafia II. You have two options:

  • one for the normal way to open the door with your hand or
  • to kick the door with your leg.

I would like to see variety too. But remember that if they implement any rude door opening like the ability to kick the door in, they should make proper consequences for this action as it is not socially accepted to kick any door in real life now and I suppose it was that way in Medieval times too. In a realistic game like Deliverance this action should influence the player negatively - physical punishment, pay fine or whatever. Too much work for nothing I suppose… Dan Vavra once told in a video that those kinds of suggestions take a lot of their time because they have to clear all the details before even start to work on it and the details alone are very tiresome.

Thank you for answering! I’m glad your team have thought this already.
One more thing - as I watched the last video update for the second time, I noticed that recipe book’s pages aren’t browsed with hand animation. Same arguments here as in the case of door opening - more realism and more immersion. I suppose you will also implement hand animation when browsing a book in manner time, but I felt obligated to report this as well. Thank you again!

Dude, the game hasn’t even reached alpha. I’m pretty sure they will add these things.

Yeah, I know that pretty well.
Just felt obligated to suggest those things to avoid the slight possibility that devs overlook them in favor of more important matters.
