Building a PC; recommendations?

This is a good point.

"Nvidia’s 2016 cards are all powered by its new Pascal technology. Pascal replaces Maxwell, which was behind the GTX 9xx series and the Titan X. Nvidia’s headline claim about Pascal as a whole is that it’s three times more efficient than the previous generation, which is done both with computing improvements and a new design and manufacturing process.

Pascal uses a 16nm (nanometer) process, where Maxwell used a 28nm process. This means Nvidia can fit more transistors (the bits that do the computing work) into a smaller space while consuming less power, meaning the whole GPU is a lot more efficient and runs cooler.

In terms of clock speed, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 will sit at 1607MHz but is capable of boosting to 1733MHz, which is a huge figure when you consider the maximum boost speed of the GTX 980 was 1216MHz.

All this is possible in a GPU that consumes just 15W more power than the GTX 980 (180W versus 165W), and operates at a lower maximum temperature (94C versus 98C).

Considering how much more efficient the GTX 1080 is, expect to see the trend of top-end Nvidia cards inside laptops continue."

If you have time, you should wait 2 months till Nvidia and AMD placed their new grafic cards.
The AMD polaris will be more midrange, but also faster than the (old) Nvidia 970 (and cheaper!!).

Good times are coming! For highest performance Nvidia, or a little cheaper AMD.

Yeah, I am sold. I will wait until new and better stuff comes out.

Appreciate the feedback. I still would love for @SirWarriant to go to that site and show me a build around $1000 that competes with the PCs I linked to.

Your CPU, and GPU if you bought them separately from say new egg, would be around 350$ each. Ram is super cheap, and you could buy a cheap case for 100 bucks or so. That would put the overall price at under 1000.

I’m not sure what “site” you’re talking about, i was talking about ordering the parts from different websites and putting the pc together yourself. 99% of pre built pcs are completely over priced.

From this site:
http://pcpartpicker.com

You are selecting parts from various sites. The benefit of pcpartpicker is identifying any incompatibilities and the best deals available.

You should use that site and see if you can build a superior PC for your $1000 amount. I personally was unable to do that.

If you can, please screenshot it. Not sure if you can link me to your specific build.

I was merely searching for the very parts listed in those two pre built pcs that you linked above, so they are compatible parts. (I used the cheaper one)

( btw i have this card, highly recommend it.)
CPU

As for ram, well it’s extremely cheap I’m guessing 16 gigs would be around 100 if that it’s been a while since ive purchased any. You could save even more money by buying a cheap case if you wanted too.

So rough total

914 (U.S dollars) if you spent 100 on ram, and 150 on the case. Even if I’m off by 100 bucks that’s is 400 dollars cheaper than the cheapest pre built pc you linked, you would of course have to put it together yourself.

And keep in mind you don’t need a pc this powerful, if you were looking for some with equal power to the current gen consoles (or slightly more) i could find some budget builds for you, if you wanted.

I have 8 gigs of ram a shitty i5 processor, and a very nice gtx 970, and i can run games better than the consoles can. KC:D also runs quite well for me (considering it’s beta) i usually get around 25-30 fps on the highest settings. Hopefully i’ll be able to get 60 when the game is fully optimized.
