Dislike for announced Stretch goals

I see your point, but I think it will be better if the creators stick to their vision instead of pandering to what we want. They may just surprise us.

Right, I joked, but he backed this game, so new stretch goals are for people which not decided for support yet.

I increased my pledge to Baron for Alpha access although it is not reflected here, so cool goals could in fact inspire current backers to increase their initial pledge.

I don’t know why people are disappointed at all. These tournaments seem to have a function.

There will be several combat modes and you can use them as a training as well as a way of earning bragging rights with your buddies.

Think of it as an opportunity to get some honor. Think of it as a reputation if you won several tournaments. People will acknowledge it, people will know you, some people might then break your legs or arms, so you can’t fight that good anymore and a tournament gets more difficult.

Also who knows how training actually works. Even if it’s the wrong topic here, the updates states that the character learns new moves. But how does it happen? It surely could be during tournaments. Anyone remember the Insult Sword Fighting of The Secret of Monkey Island? You only learn the words you’ve heard before. Just like this I expect to learn new moves just by watching your enemy using it against you or others. If you watch them closely, you’ll be surely learning the basic skill and train it to perfection, which means higher attack speed and accuracy. Also for each attack you should be able to parry or block it, which needs another training. How? You use the attack you’ve learned and see, how your enemies try to defend themselves. If you found someone capable of defending himself against the attack, you’ll use it against him over and over again until you learn how to do it yourself if someone is using the attack against you.

What I want in this game is a compendium. I already told the devs that I’d like to have one. A video compendium about attacks and fighting styles is a one way to do it. However I hope they do it via motion capturing and show the fight in the ingame world instead of real people fencing in a studio. Think of going to a tutor to tell you more about the techniques, the history and a brief explanation how it works and all fights are motion captured.

C’mon guys, don’t be so negative. You need more creativity to argue about features or come up with ideas to make these features look worthwhile. Yes they could have said how they want to have these features exactly implemented, but then again why are we here in this forum and discuss about features if they would be already set in stone?

What about Balian? Oh wait, Hollywood movie.

Yeah the motion capture is huge and I’m confident that we will reach that but I don’t know that I would call the new stretch goals lacking. I would love some sort of tournament in-game. Although I’m slightly disappointed that it won’t be in the main story mode (if it even happens), it is understandable because of the story setting.

All the great big things are already planned and backed from the investor, the kickstareter is just for these small extras, I think. They don’t need the money from kickstarter that much now, although it will help them for sure.

I just don’t see 200000 pounds worth of stretch goal here with these 2 additions. I am extremely happy that the game is being made and do not want to seem negative. If they don’t excite me as a true believer, they certainly won’t inspire a non backer to jump in.

There are still going to be people who aren’t yet aware of the project, so they may back this or not regardless of the stretch goals. As for people who may be on the fence, they’ll just have to decide what, if anything, it’s worth to them to back the project.

Remember, the project is funded and a very clear point was made to the investor about the validity of the game. The rest is just a bonus.

Would love to see the Tournament “mode” incorporated into the SP game to something along the lines of what was done in the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion’s arena or Mass Effect 3: Citadel DLC’s combat simulator. Provided their is some way to fit it into the world (perhaps as a tournament/festival that is held once a month in game) their is great potential to have questlines and dialogue/choices surrounding such an event that could even be worked into the over-arching main story.

If the Tournaments are a completely separate module then my interest is somewhat diminished, but nevertheless I would probably still enjoy playing it.

You cannot make a strict correlation between 100k and the cost of each stretch goal. Somehow, I find it hard to believe performance capture, which is indeed traditionally expensive, costs as much as recording videos with two sword masters you’ve already hired.

I reckon it’s mostly symbolic. Having said that, I find the lastest stretch goals unappealing.

Good point. Either way, we all win with this game. It is a good time to be a gamer.

I think the Tournament is ok
but i don’t like the idea of a ingame Combat Academy it Sound like a Harry Poter Magic School for me and i dont see how this fits in this world at the Moment. Then A Real-Life Movie that Show us some Real Battle-Movements with sword? I will never use a Real Sword in my life for Self- Defending or other thinks
so i dont think that i have any needs for this. I mean its sure very interesting how ur put the Real-Movements in ur Game but its more a think for the making-of and i dont like the idea that your put the Money that ppl pay for a bigger and more Detailed Game in something like that. In this way its sounds like we have now enough Money for this Game and we dont want to put more in it to make it better. Sry Bad English

I think when they wrote you earn bragging rights with your buddies they didn’t meant that it will affect your campaign in any way. You brag about it here, on the forums maybe, but it shouldn’t affect the story when it’s a separate mode.
Also I don’t think the fencing lessons will affect your in-game knowledge, they should already have a system for that, so this is will be more like a in-game video/tutorial how medieval weapons work.

I would be happier if they would add an option to have an appreantice. Both as a smith and probably as a knight. He/she could carry some of your stuff, you could teach him and you learn by that too. He/she could keep you company while you travel and you help in some situations.

Its to bad we cant donate money every month. I cant donate as much every month as when I backed this project but I would gladly donate a smaller monthly amount. If I was rich I would pay for all my friends to be backers.

@Photonic, I agree with you; at this point I think that anything above 700,000 at this point is a symbolic victory. If @YuusouAmazing is correct about the tournament fighting gaining one honor then of course I’m all for it. The issue it that most of the other goals helped the gaming experience become more immersive and fun to play. At this point it kind of sounds like maybe they hit the cap on what they can add to the game with the money on Kickstarter. I so badly wanted mo-cap in the game and it looks like it’s going to happen so I am psyched. I know @MacKJames is with me on that one!

Don’t forget that the game is not a typical Kickstarter project. It is AAA game with everything what it means. Therefore lots of features which you wanted to have in the game are either already planned, or not simply possible. They also had to think about their stretch goals realistically, because new features don’t mean only the need of more money but need of more time as well. They simply can’t add some stretch goals which would shift the release date too much. They had to consider all these aspects. I think that the stretch goals which they’ve uncovered are good enough. Like it or not, I believe those are the best possible stretch goals which they can offer us.

i think of it as a good idea. in a tournament mode you can simply smash some heads if you like. nothing you would probably do in the normal game, at least not without a good cause and consequences.

another sandbox where you can try things out without spending much time to acquire them.

perhaps a somewhat small stretch goal, but a realistic one. i like it.
it also cries for multiplayer, and the tournament mode would be a good start to add it. perhaps a later stretch goal?

That’s my main issue with these stretch goals, they’re all side things. I’d prefer if it was new features added to the core game instead of a video or a tournament game off to the side of the main game. It’s not that either is bad, just not as great as they could be.

No in most peerage systems “knight” is an honorary title which is granted for service usually military. Hereditary titles like baron, viscount, earl, duke, etc are passed on to the nobles heirs. You are the one who needs to stop watching hollywood movies before claiming others do.

As far as tournaments go they are a part of Medieval warfare, melees and mock battles were often held in the camps of gathering armies as they prepared for war. Maybe not so much past the 14th century, but if you look at the hundred years war you can find examples plus there was the pas d’armes which could be random encounters.
