DXGI Device Hung

Dear Devs
I am very much excited for this game. I pre-ordered it on Steam (29 Jan 2018) but installed on 20 Feb 2018.
Since then I am trying to play the game but I get “DXGI Device Hung” error and game crashes to desktop every 20min or at start.
(Never Happened on any other Game)

Gaming @ 1440p - Tried lowering Settings gradually (other than resolution) & Tried GeForce Experience OPTIMAL settings for game

PLEASE HELP IN THIS REGARD UNABLE TO PLAY CANT EVEN PROGRESS BEYOND THE INITIAL AREA!

Well it’s a graphics error. Try lowest possible graphics settings, including lowering resolution, and try different resolution ratios. You could try loading earlier versions of nvidia drivers, sometimes the newest versions introduce new bugs. Try uninstalling the game and manually checking that the steam folder and user folder is completely deleted before reinstalling. Could be an issue with directx as well, if you’re not willing to do an OS reinstall then google fixing corrupt directx. All that fails then you probably have a hardware issue. Saying it’s only a year old or doesn’t crash on other games is meaningless, it could still easily be a hardware issue. Try dusting your video card, reseating it, connecting your monitor via a different port on the video card. Unfortunately that’s a pretty generic error and you have to be willing to do a lot of troubleshooting sometimes to find the root cause.

I haven’t got half the machine you have, but I found that trying to speed up the memory on my vid card was doing that to me. I’m not at all techy so pardon me if I sound like an idiot, but try not oc’ing your video card for a bit and see if it helps, maybe.

Thank You for your feedback I will try checking the solutions one by one, though I have already disabled OC and checked but with no success.
What I don’t understand is if it is a hardware error it should crash on other demanding games also which I tested when I encountered crash on Kingdomcome. Games like Wolfeinstein II, Watch Dogs 2, Assassins Creed Origins run flawlessly in 60FPS on ULTRA settings for hours (though my system runs a little hot on AC Origins).

I am trying SFC/SCANNOW command (System File Checker)
and DirectX End-User Runtimes Program
and immediate previous version of nvidia driver

let me see the results of them first, I will update the outcome.

Thank you for your response. I dont OC often, only when the game is very demanding for 1440p 60FPS in at least very-high settings (just to utilize my PC’s capabilities), I dont try to push my system harder on ultra settings though. I had already tried both OC and NON-OC to trouble shoot, that seems not to be the issue in my case.
Please let me know if you come across any more tips for this game specifically, because I didn’t encounter any crashes in any other games which could not be solved by some Settings tweaking. Never have I had to meddle with my hardware. Superficial dusting and system fan cleaning is what I do regularly once in 4 mths.

 And dude I am not a techy either so let us idiots help each other in solving our issues

Hello! I just bought the game and I have exatly the same issue. Isn’t it possible it’s not our pc’s but bug in the game?

I also have gtx geforce - but 780… There is a new patch coming up soon as I understand it… shouldnt we just wait for that before we start getting mad of tweaking and fiddling with our otherwise functioning gaming computors?

Really really hope they can fix it soon…

I have the same issue. The game ran perfectly the first day, then this error started occurring more and more often. Now the game won’t even launch anymore. Just after the intro video I get DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG. I can’t even access the menu to change the graphics settings.
I didn’t overclock this pc, so that can’t be the issue. I tried to re-install my graphic drivers and the game, but its still broken.
Does anyone know how to fix it?

I got my game to run again. Apparently the problem is that my videocard is factory-overclocked, but I didn’t know as it never gave me issues in the past 2 years. The game doesn’t handle overclocked cards well, so that is why it crashes. To solve it, you can remove the overclock in the nvidia control panel. To do this, just set the card in debug mode: https://www.evga.com/support/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=59594

My RX 580 is OC’ed a bit and the game was fine until today, so far only 1 crash.
Could be unstable OC, so that’s why I’m not complaining. I’m actually trying to make it look not horrible on my monitor so I don’t play too much, more like stare at the sky while I fiddle around with the monitor…

HEY THERE
Turns out you were right my MSI SW didn’t disable my OC when I asked it to - some bug in MSI SW - I did that manually, in the BIOS. Working fine now. After some research came to know CRYENGINE is the culprit, doesn’t handle OCing.

THANKS FOR YOUR TIP IT IS SOLVED.
The credit goes to you.

Hi,
OCing is the culprit.
My MSI SW didn’t disable my OC when I asked it to - some bug in MSI SW - I did that manually. In the BIOS. Working fine now. After some research came to know CRYENGINE is the culprit, doesn’t handle OCING.

Thanks anyways.

Hi there.
Its not the game but the game engine it uses (CRYENGINE). It doesn’t handle OCing. You can find more about it if you google.

Hi.
It’s is not an UNSTABLE OC, but ANY OC, since CRYENGINE can’t handle OCing. If there is an issue of unstability other games also should show problems.

Can Google CRYENGINE and OCing.
Hope that solves the problem.

oh it’s a bit embarrasing, I’m totally noob to this OC - stuff. Debug mode was enabled in Nvidia control panel - which disables any clocking, hence prevented me from doing any adjustments.

BUT! I tried downclocking GPU from 1006 mhz to 954 mhz. And it seems to be working right now! played for 2 hours without any issues… so it’s totally made a difference! hope it stays that way… thx for answer…

I don’t know about that, I know that I have both the CPU and the GPU OC’ed and the game is working fine, anecdotal, I know, but still - I’m not in a hurry to return to stock settings.
