You didn’t really have to steal the ring, I approached the executioner and lied to him about the ring and that it’s the only possession that the dead “father” had and it would be nice if it can be to his kids. I paid the executioner 15 groschen and got it done that way. After all he has no use for it, it’s just sitting there locked in the chest, it’s just a cheap ring, that doesn’t net much profit. There are multiple ways to get it done, you can play the thief and lockpick the door and chest, or knock him out and steal off him or fight him or just approach and talk to him.
Well as I said I didn’t know that since Peshek told me not to speak with him about it so I didn’t even try. But I should have.
You don’t have to steal the ring. There are numerous options in that quest, including paying the miller off directly and refusing the quest in it’s entirety. Also, you can just go up and ask the executioner for the ring, and he’ll just ask for some minor compensation - which is probably the cheapest overall solution seeing as you’re going to be breaking multiple lockpicks that cost more than his fee. Nobody forces you to poach, and you don’t have to accept those quests. You say you want to play virtuous Henry, but you didn’t choose the virtuous approach.
(edit: woops, someone else said same thing while I was multitasking)
that’s life though…you have to weigh your options.
Like if Miller Peshek wants you to go grave robbing and do thief missions and you are a “good guy” those missions aren’t something your character would do. For missions that require stealth knocking people out is not necessarily “bad” if you don’t kill them and you don’t steal…or maybe you have to kill some people for the greater good. Life is full of choices, the more “good” you are the harder those choices become.
I responded after a couple of posts, I understand someone else may have already shared that piece of info and that you have already explained why. I didn’t know either, so I just did a little bit research on the internet. And now I realize that quests have a good chance of hidden alternatives and can explore them without having to do the research.
In a good RPG you cannot exhaust all quests if you play a specific “good” or “evil” character or a “thief” or a “warrior”…like if you want to 100% complete stuff without doing it over multiple play throughs you wont exactly be playing a “character” so much as just exhausting the game…going from stealth kills and locking picking to full plate and swords and shields or what have you
What? I looked at this game like a week before it came out and decided i was going to buy it lol I’ve defended this game from day one on the forums to people whining about lockpicking, archery, the save system, people crying for refunds I could go on so dont talk as if I’m someone asking for changes it was merely an opinion that from looking into review and devs talks about this being a game of choices and consequences unlike other rpgs I would have like to atleast seen ingame that being a criminal would perhaps reflect the artitude of npcs in the main story other than that i love the game and have sunk alot alot of hours into this. Think a bit more before replying without thought next time lol
i rob a lot and consequently i feel like i get harassed by guards a lot…but that’s about it as far as reputation seems to really effect me. i can always pay people to talk to me if i feel like i have to, since money is no problem lol
You are basically bashing the game for not having an in-depth character story arc coded into each dialogue from all of the choices that you’ve made thus far. The way it is written currently yes has its problems, but to make an intricate and deeply woven plot that remembers every single choice and reacts accordingly is asking for this game to be delayed much more than it already had been.
Bashing the game? You mistake simple questioning for bashing. The people who made this game prided itself on a game with multiple choices and scenarios and I was simply making a point of why something wasn’t there… for instance i could go around publicly murdering all the innocents and i would still be invited into sir radzigs service. Why you got to be negative in your replys? The only one bashing here is you for someone making a simple statement. Other than that i still love the game and it isnt going to make me not play it xD
I’m pretty sure you could choose to just pay off the miller with your own coin?
But I get your meaning. It’s pretty much as if the whole action and consequence morality system built into the game doesn’t apply to story scenarios or main quest-lines. Which can and does have a negative effect from an immersive point of view.
If you try and do everything, there’s no doubt going to be a fair bit of inconsistency in terms of attitude, approach and morality. Depending on how each individual approaches their own play-through and play style.
It’s almost as if your character should not have been interacting with the Miller anyway. You cannot play a character alignment and get 100% quest completion in a good RPG; it’s gonna take multiple play through, which is kind of the appeal
Also playability…in order for the story to advance in ways that match up with history some outcomes are going to be decided for you. You wanna find a good balance of playability and realism in a game that prides itself in historical accuracy
Embioz, I don’t think it’s possible to complete ALL quests in this game in one playthrough. It’s just not.
Some quests are timed. Wait too long and you can’t do them. Kill the wrong NPC and any quests they may have had in the future are gone. Take a quest but take too long completing it and the quest moves on without you.
One example of such a quest is in Sasau. Go to the monastery and agree to help Johanka treat the wounded, and there are some very important skills you must have in order to complete this quest without anyone dying. You have to have invested perk points in bandaging. You have to be able to read and do alchemy. You have to have some common sense in working out what herb to bring someone who can’t remember the name, only the description and work it out for yourself. You have to be able to do some investigative work and put the pieces together; you have to do all this on the clock. Take too long and people will die. Don’t have enough skill, people will die.
Can’t figure out the clues, people will die.
Insult the Custodian too much and he’ll put you in jail when he’s making unwanted advances on Johanka, and that will really cut into your time in saving people.
I think there are some quests you can only get if you have a high enough or low enough reputation. Some parts of quests can be done so differently that everyone practically has a different experience. My first time playing, I had no clue why everyone loved Father Godwin. I had high enough Charisma to get him to give me the information I wanted with no fuss, but on my current playthrough, well, I found out why people love him.
Don’t expect a completionist playthrough. Heck, do one quest wrong, or ask for too many men in an assault and an entire town could be wiped out from plague or attack.
I’m pretty sure you could choose to just pay off the miller with your own coin?
Well as I said I didn’t know I could do that since Peshek told me not to speak with him about it so I didn’t even try. But I should have.
Don’t expect a completionist playthrough.
Well maybe that’s my probem. I always want to be a completionist and always have the perfect outcome. Worked until now.
I agree that sometimes Henry react without giving you choice, like with hans capon at the beginning, and i also agree that there s a lot of People asking you to steal or make bad things, but IT depends if there are also “good” quests or side quest nornally ask you to behave bad! I m still at the beginning so, for now, i think that s ok… IT is called dark age!
I feel guilty, in my recent playtime, because i killed a bandit Who attacked nehouf and the guard by my side caught me transporting the dead body!
Although i didn t knew about this, i ran off at first time, but later, after completing the quest, when cpt. Bernard met me, he put me in jail for 1 week!
And so, i lost opportunity to find alive the man i was seeking for in uhitz!
I was angry at first, because i wanted to act good everytime, but now i accept IT because IT could be a real “event” that happens to unlucky People!
Out of curiosity, why were you carrying a bandit’s body around? I generally just leave them where they die.
I haven’t found a signle use in the game to carry a body yet. I suppose there could be one if you wanted to kill a “good person” and hide the body? I dunno.
Hi Friend!
You are right i forgot to explain this!
The quest is the one that bandits attack nehuef and kill people horses etc etc…
Since cpt bernard send you with a guard to examine the woods, after finding the two bandits, in a bit my brain told me : “carry up a dead bandit and show him to cpt bernard, as a proof of someone involved in this crime”…
and so on… hahahahahaah
Silly me knocked the healthy one unconscious, and hauled his body back to Bernard for questioning. He woke up in the middle of Neuhof and was instantly killed by several guards, while one of them quipped something about wishing they could have taken them alive or something similar. facepalm
