It’s very interesting actually history like this is why I’m so interested in this game.
As a Belgian I see my country not as such historical importance, although I am more familiar with bourgondien parts of the middle ages.
Personally I see Europe just as east and west geographically (not historical) and from my point of view you guys are eastern if that bothers you I won’t call it that again.
Whether we are Eastern or Western Europe doesn’t matter as long as we are not considered by that as some barbarians who discovered electricity last year
But not to do this off-topic, It is true that music, which was played in pubs during that time, is definitely not that which you can listen now flagged as medieval music. And unfortunately those original song will be really hard to find since they were shared usually from bard to bard without any scores. But I don’t know exactly. According to the description of that stretch goal they probably find out some original songs already
Oh God no…
Instrumental only…

I always wondered, how do they make games without electricity?
Sounds like parts of Wales
What I obviously am talking about is just instrumental music, but more from the common people and with time period instruments
But isn’t that already covered by the 400k stretch goal?
Thus I don’t think we will hear German or Bulgarian bands.
yes I read that but if you read more of this thread you would see that my concern is more about the use of historical instruments and if the music is not all “church” music, because that is what most 'ancient song books consist of.
I don’t know, yo, I’d like me some phat organ sound, ya know.
No, seriously, would be nice when I enter a church or monastery and the priest or whoever it does would play something on the organ. It would be even better if I could play it myself.
Or imagine this in the monastery (Sazava Monastery)
-> a Gregorian choir plus organ. That would add to the atmosphere immensely.
So, I can’t see a problem with ‘church’ music. Quite the contrary.
This is the most accurate example of profane and folklore music from that period and place I guess: http://www.emusic.com/album/various-artists/musica-in-bohemia-in-tempore-caroli-iv/14232593/
Some other songs:

church music in churches would be great but not through all the game all the time
These are great!! If we get music like the Saltarello (from the first link) then I am happy it really is dancing music and many neo-medieval folk bands play it (like Corvus Corax).
I really hope for music like this! Omar you are really The best
I guess this will be solved by the modularity of AI as they described it, thus monks will sing their songs just during some part of the day as well as folklore band won’t play in the pub all the time but for example in the evening.
so if we can get music like this it will probably be just from ingame NPC’s and not like ingame background music… that could please me and if it doesn’t I’ll just put a cd on while gaming
Good topic! I’m recommending the Inquisitor soundtrack for your consideration and listening, very good tracks.
While I like the music I don’t think it’s very fit for a medieval game.
Also off topic: I think you might like the band Coppelius
This is very old song (origin unknown) which become first Polish anthem
And here is small part of “The Knights of the Cross” film with “Christ ist erstanden” (about 4:05) and “Bogurodzica” (4:34) during battle of Grunwald/Tannenberg
I think it’s some very good sound tracks, but they don’t really fit for a medieval game do they?
Actually I think all the music they get in almost have to be specially developed or re-made for this game.
Music should play an illustrative role. And the game needs various themes. I am not insisting to take particular song and put it into the KCD. What I tried to show is that tavern music is needed here and big national songs would fit too. It depends of the scene or mood.

Michal
I’m all for period music during random wandering about town, travelling, or during cut scenes where it fits the moment. However, I wonder if maybe they’ll need to use more dramatic themes common to film scores during dynamic moments such as battles. To be clear, I would like the music to be period as much as possible for immersion. However, it may be necessary to use original works when they need something more like modern scores to fit a particular moment.
