I have been on 64bit CPU for a decade, since 2004. Even Crytek’s own Ryse does not support 32bit anymore. It’s time to let it go guys. Actually, that time has been 5 years ago if consoles and holdouts didn’t hold us back.
For those of you grousing… if I can be blunt…
Why… ON EARTH… would you have chosen the 32 bit version of Windows 8.1!!! What possible cost savings or advantage was in it for you? I’ve been running 64 bit since XP… yeah, it was little rough on occasion then… but no problems from Vista forward (well, other than Vista being steaming pile of code in general… but it certainly wasn’t a 64 vs 32 bit problem…) Running Win 7 Ultimate 64 now
I actually assumed this would be 64 bit only thing… like all the other major games hitting now.
Your 32 bit Windows is not going to just screw you here, but in several other games and programs.
Honestly, the thing to do is upgrade your copy of Windows. You can be obstinate about it, hold on to your 32 bit version out of … pride? But the fact is… you made a mistake buying a 32 bit copy of Windows… sorry about that. You don’t just want 64 bit for KC: D but for lots of other programs as well. By buying a 32 bit Windows… you bought into obsolescence right out of the shiny new box. I didn’t even know a 32 bit version of 8.1 existed honestly. What’s an OEM Win 8.1 64 going for? $100? Maybe Microsoft has a 32 bit to 64 bit upgrade that is cheaper. I don’t know. Like I said, my last 32 bit OS was around 2002 or so.
You can be angry at Warhorse, disappointed… or you can fix the problem. And to do that, you want a 64 bit OS.
If you want to be angry at someone… be angry at Microsoft for suckering you into a 32 bit OS…
No one is being angry, much less at Warhorse.
And there are reasons to use 32bit OS you know. Mainly the ability to run old 32bit-only software, which is something that I have to be able to reliably do, as I use my computer mainly for work.
But as I said - noone is blaming anyone. I’ll just calmly skip the Alpha and make a plan for a complete computer reinstall sometime within the next year to be ready for full KCD release.
And as I mentioned above - if someone already owns a 32bit Windows 8, he should be able to download the 32bit version for free.
Most 32 bit software runs flawlessly on 64 bit. Only old hardware without 64 bit driver support are problematic.
If you absolutely need a 32 bit OS you can use virtualization or dual boot.
And 32 bit is also restricted to 4GB Total RAM, which in the end of 2014 is ridiculously low. Also, it could not take any advantage of multi-cored CPUs (like Intel i5, i7 etc…)
Lets face the truth - 32 bit operational system is OBSOLETE and you should consider moving to 64 bit.
I know some programs that only run on 32 bit but most folks who work with those programs just partition a bit of their hdd and run a dual os setup.
