More than that if I was to count the smaller wars , such as the Crimean war etc

Look at the 1938 map.

UK could have sat back and keep quiet, but no, they didn’t. You sided with Hitler, pressuring Czechoslovakia to stand down. That in turn made Poland and Hungary militarily join Nazi Germany - something that would have never happened without UK openly supporting Hitler. That means that instead of standing against Germany - country with over 4 times larger population, Czechoslovakia was suddenly - only thanks to British and French appeasement - standing against forces of countries with population count about 8 times larger that were alongside the entire border (bar the tiny part with Romania).

UK is a large country sitting safely on its Island. The idea of war that would be conducted by invasion alongside the entire border line by forces coming from countries with far greater total population count is something unimaginable. So of course you can’t imagine putting guns down.

We were more than ready to have a go at it with Nazis (we had far greater superiority as regards machine guns and artillery, Germans as regards airplanes, but those would still need to get through thick ground-to-air artillery first). But going against diplomatic alliance of Germany, Italy, Britain and France and de-facto military alliance of Germany, Poland and Hungary was outright impossible.

There were only two countries ready for war in 1938. And UK decided it is a good idea to side with the Nazi dictatorship against the only democratic republic in Central Europe (bar Switzerland).

Excuses . As a nation you agreed to the deal in your actions .

“Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

As I have said before . A gun is useless without a man willing to use it . You may of had this great army you speak of and all these weapons , but they were worth no more than a pile of sticks because you didn’t have the balls to use them and to protect your freedom . And it’s much easier to blame the British than to blame your own countrymen of the time.

Also you seem to forget about France in all of this ? And the fact that the agreement was greeted with relief across the globe even the U.S. were quite happy with the agreement .

Britain and France had to choose between war and dishonour. They chose dishonour. They will have war.

Churchil to Chamberlain in the House of Commons, after the Munich accords (1938)

Again, Churchil forgot the third option, just sitting back quietly and not siding with Germany.

Yes, please, just tell me how exactly we should have fought armies alongside the entire border that were coming from countries with 8 times the population count.

In general, I agree with you. Knowing now that Nazis would slaughter 360.000 of Czechoslovak citizens, 80.000 of them just for being Jewish, yes, there is no question about it.

But that is not something they knew then. They knew that they can fight a long war with Germany, having already moved the strategic factories as well as army staff towards Slovakia away from Germany, with border fortifications making it impossible for enemy to supply troops inside Czech territory and soldiers more than eager to fight, but with Poland and Hungary stepping in after being encouraged by UK and France, there was no meaningful strategy or tactic that could have been employed. So they sent the most capable soldiers - including the 2500 airmen that later served as part of RAF - abroad to continue the fight once it made sense.

Say again?

That’s just as bad as appeasement .

[/quote] it’s better to die on your feet than live on your knees . You accepted your fate and surrendered to the appeasement . Which was as cowardly as the agreement it’s self .

The appeasement was a European mistake not a British one .

To show such disrespect in saying we are not to be trusted is out right wrong . And disgusting seeing that you would be crying at our feet if you was attacked by Russia .

And to have much of a reaction out of the U.S. you would require our support fully . As the U.S. and UK come as a package .

but of course if you don’t want our help then fine and good luck .

No it isn’t, because it means Poland and Hungary sitting back too. The two countries would never dare invade Czechoslovakia without implicit consent of UK and France (in Polish case, especially France).

No, it wasn’t as cowardly. UK and France were not looking at invasion of enemy armies alongside their entire border from countries with 8 times their population count. Yet they decided to support Nazi Germany.

What Europe are you talking about? You don’t get to blame fictive Europe on this.

That is interesting. So UK really is a dog sitting in US lap? Because here we do have high hopes as regards US, but none as regards UK.

UK can keep on dreaming it is safe on its own island. US is well aware that if Russia manages to take over Europe, or half of the Europe, it would inevitably become its No.1 enemy the way it used to be in the cold war. Just that communists were predictable, Putin is anything but.

Oh, yes, we would love to have it. But we already learned our lesson.

guys chill down.

I will probably regret this but:

You talk about history here. The history other people have made, and yet you speak in plural. We, we, we…
Relize that you had no part in that history. there is no WE, there is only THEY.

Dont idealize the people and their actions just because they happend to live in the same political region.

And you decided to give in and out down your weapons

[/quote] a deal agreed by Italy , Germany , France and Britain . And supported by all over nations in Europe is hardly a British only mistake that you seem to wish to paint

[/quote] no not all but simple reasons really . For started the U.S. and UK are the spear head of any NATO attack as we have the ability to function as a single fighting force . This can’t be done with any other 2 nations because the barriers of language , kit etc comes into play . And also the way British and American units operate is very similar .

The U.S. would leave you to be crushed until the UK agreed to get involved because all NATO reaction is planned in the assumption the UK and US would lead the assault . And because the US would need the British mainlain to store most of its kit and navel build up as we are the only European nation with the capabilities to house such kit .

Also I can’t imagine US public opinion being to high on taking down russia with only France and Germany at its side . And no real place to maintain their most advanced kit

Hey, look, sorry if I sounded too harsh, I didn’t mean to. Basically, what I wanted to say is that nobody in Central Europe is putting their money on the Brits, especially considering that you are about to leave the EU and considering the historical experience we have from 1938 when Britain made diplomatic alliance with Nazi Germany (alongside the other countries).

We also understand that US needs to take care of its own interests first, and I think that everyone can agree that Russian expansion that might eventually lead to restoration of USSR power is not in US interests.

Right now everyone is hoping that the things in Ukraine will get better and that Russia won’t enter the NATO Baltic states. Meanwhile, I personally know quite a few Czechs who - none of them being in army - are getting guns and private training with view to what is happening in the East and each one of us is trying to answer to themselves whether they would go and fight for the Baltics or not (privately, as has been the case for Czechs in the past 100 years, since as you rightly pointed out, our army never openly defended our territory).

With a little bit of luck, Iran will start exporting oil next year which will bring the prices far lower, Poland will have its ports ready for US shale gas driving natural gas prices down too and the biggest problem of Russian army will be how to pay for soldiers’ bread instead of how to pay for 5th generation jet fighters.

Depends. The U.S was meant to be an isolationist country and we were doing just that until world war 1 , And when we were forced into world war 2.

Isolationism is becoming more and more popular, because we’ve pretty much been in constant wars since World War 2. If we were isolationists, us stopping Russia from taking Europe wouldn’t be in our interests.

In getting Americans to go fight and die for Europe again would be a very difficult task. The only way i see the American public supporting a war like that, is if a Pear Harbor type even occurs that threatens main land America.

I personally favor isolationism but i would never support abandoning Europe to Russia in a million years. I just hope to god something like that never happens. It could make World War 2 look like a side show.

It’s ok . But you must understand I take such comments personally and having spent many days of NATO excersises I’ve seen enough to know that the only two nations that take it seriously are the UK and US . While the rest of Europe/NATO send fuck all men and fuck all kit and couldn’t give a fuck to be truthful .
So I don’t think you should be questioning the UK commitment to Europes defence you should questioning your own nations and especially france and Germany who have the money to equal the UK in defence but choose not too .

Us leaving the EU does not change the commitment to defending your freedom and the rest of European freedom against anyone who dares to attack it . But the for us in the UK all we see is a lot of giving to the EU in terms of money and fines etc and fuck all back .

“The fact is an officer can make an arrest anytime … you run a red light, parking ticket, anything like that,” Houck said. “What he did was he notices she was agitated.”

Wow. I’d hate to live in a country where running a red light is a reason for arrest.

I am there with you. Although given our historic experience in 1938/1968, I’d prefer Swiss militia style. Well, at least we can get near that with the current gun laws, each and every one on his own.

Meanwhile in the Czech Republic:

I take this train and route when visiting parents. I’ve always hated sitting in the front carriage.

Yes cops are out of hand. We are very much becoming a police state. I’m shocked by you though, you link articles like this and then wonder why i don’t trust my government.

But there is two sides to this. In a country of over 300 million people you’re going to have events like this happen. The news channels love to pick up on these stories and make it seem like this happens constantly. Most cops i met have been nice for the most part, and no one i know has been a victim of police brutality.

I don’t dispute that. That may happen anywhere. But then I’d expect the “legal expert” to step up and say that there was no reason for arrest. Instead he says you can get arrested, basically, just because.

I guarantee you the women’s family was compensated for it. And I’m sure the officers will be held accountable. The news is happy to report police brutality, but doesn’t usually report that the cops don’t get away with it.

(Jehova witnesses pic)

Couple of years back I had a funny encounter in the village I come from. I was walking towards a bus stop when I heard someone shouting “Get out! Get the fuck out! You fucking piece of shit get the fuck out!”

I first thought that some gypsies were attacking the poor guy (I didn’t see through wall of bushes and trees) so I ran some 30 metres forward until I saw behind the corner that there were 2 jehova witnesses in front of a gate to this guy’s property. The conversation followed something like this:

Jehova Witnesses: “Good afternoon, sir.” (yeah, they didn’t get the message)
Homeowner in his 60s: "[angry voice] Motherfucker [normal voice] Good afternoon sir [angry voice] the fuck you want cunts I told you never to come again!
JW: “OK, we are sorry for botherin you. Have a nice day"
H: [angry voice] Piece of shit cunt [normal voice] Goodbye, god bless [angry voice] Don’t you dare come here again or I break your legs!”

It was just wonderful to see this guy angry to the point he was loosing it but at the same time automatically keeping the courtesy typical for any small settlement where most people know each other

Oh boy, i just now noticed your source. CNN. Also the women is black, now i see why this story got attention, if it were a white person this never would have made the news.

I’m not going to trust a word your source said and heres why. With both Michael Browns case and Trayvon Martins case CNN said they were both brutality executed by evil white men. I’m willing to be theres more to the story now.

Well I took the time to watch the entire video.

It was basically no problem until the point he told her to put away the cigarette and she told him nothing prevents her from smoking in her vehicle.

He basically arrested her for refusing to put a cigarette away.

It’s what happened in the jail that I’m going to have trouble believing. They’re going to say an evil white privileged straight male cop murdered her while wearing the confederate flag and singing i wish i was in Dixie.

Mark my words it will start another race riot.

Also this is unlikely but there’s the possibility she was pulled over for doing something recently. I remember the whole Micheal Brown thing, CNN said he was stopped for no reason, when in fact the had just robbed a gas station and assaulted the guy working their.
