Both could take each other out . It would be down to the crew and the environment they met in .

Well considering a chally can take 70+ direct RPG hits I’m pretty sure it would be fine in urban combat .

But only an idiot would take a tank into a built up urban area

Who was counting? A claim is a claim, nothing more.

That is possible yes, if the shots hit the front of the armor. But if those shots had hit the back, it would be a very different story. RPGs were able to damage the Abrams by hitting the rear, which was poorly armored.

Luckily we fixed that problem.

Yeah like said above. But the Abrams drivers would most likely have real combat experience, or at least training from people with real combat experience.

Well the one good benefit of that, was that it was tested. It now is the most combat tested tank on the planet, that is in service.

Sure you can. But then again, 62 tons vs. 46 tons.

T-90 was designed with the T-72s combat experience in Afghanistan in mind. The T90A is designed following the Chechnyan urban combat experience.

I am not saying that either is superior, but I would be very cautious from underestimating the Russian tanks. Learn from Germans.

The probabilities are different though.

4:40 in the video

Both of which couldn’t go over most bridge, and would easily get stuck in the mud. The Abrams may weigh more but it’s more heavily armored.

The M1a3 set to enter service in 2017 i believe will be about 20 tons lighter, but have improved armor.

Afganistan was a long time ago, around 40 years now. We still have tank crewmen in service who have plenty of combat experience.

And neither am i.

I’m not underestimating the T-90 i just took issue with the bias of the video, and how it was leaving things out to make the T-90 look better.

Google T-90 stuck in the mud, you’ll find just as many T-90s have gotten stuck before. That is an issue all modern tanks suffer from.

Edit: Unless I’m mistaken the Soviets didn’t face any armor in Afgan.

I would also like to add, that the Abrams uses manual loading, while the T-90 is an auto loader. If the auto loaders was damaged in the T-90 , it would be defenseless.

Also just learned about the Abrams upgrade.

SEP.

Which oddly enough didn’t happen to be in this video, I wonder why.

this is the troll cave, there are no rules here.

Do remember this documentary is most likely a few years old .so the SEP upgrade may have not been known .

That being said I’d put my money on the Abrams winning in a equal fight .

The Russians know this . Which is why they invested in the Armata . Which was built to bring russia up to NATO’s levels .

But in truth tanks are becoming redundant . IFV’s/APC’s are the future . Of warfare

Oh fuck.

Well hopefully the rumors about the M1a3 having a rail gun on it are true.

How is that? We have used then heavily in the last few conflicts we’ve been in.

Logistical reasons . Modern warfare is fast and hard . Tanks don’t fit that bill . They require a vast logistical chain to keep them moving .

Also the devoplment of TOW , missiles mean a tank can be taken out from well over 5kms away .
It’s a bit like the battleship era . Styles of warfare move on and some kit just isn’t suited to the new style .

IFV’s are cheaper , faster more mobile , can carry men and don’t require so much logistics . And now with the devoplment of missiles and auto cannons , they can do the job just as well .

Also with the world devolping the way it is woth large cities etc , warfare is becoming more urban , so a tank becomes redundant . Better to have a fast moving IFV .

Personally I love tanks  they make an impression on the battlefield a IFV simply won’t ever . The screeching of the tracks , the sound , the vibrations it raises moral hugely even in excersises

Makes sense, but i wouldn’t be quick to jump to that conclusion. Everyone thought ship warfare was over when the airplane was born.

The m1a3 is going to be a much lighter tank than the M1a2. Theres rumors the cannon will be 100 mm.

Apparently this is the M1a3.

I have no clue if this is just bullshit concept art or what.

We could totally market a board game out of this it would be like operation and jenga all in one.

^Yup^

I was making jokes about selling Robin Williams plushies with little belts around their necks within the first week after he passed (only celebrity death that’s ever made me come to tears, still hard to accept).

There is no suffering in death, only the living will suffer their loss.

Everyone handles death differently for some humor is a means of accepting and moving forward. In my family a funeral is a good time, we drink eat good food and tell stories (Good, Bad, Embarrassing) of the one we have lost.
