No, we weren’t. Countries like Estonia were Soviet, my country was a communist puppet state. Only the easternmost part of Czechoslovakia became part of Soviet Union (now part of Ukraine).
There is a lot wrong with the EU, but anybody who likens it to Nazi or Communist occupation needs to participate in exchange program with North Korea.[quote=“TheDivineInfidel, post:9619, topic:21032”]
there were no victors in WW2

US fared pretty well (with all due respect to the fallen ones).
I hate to be that guy, but…

We were the only nation that wasn’t pretty much bombed to rubble, so we emerged as the most powerful nation on the planet

Well more importantly, you loaned money to everyone involved. Your government to allies and your corporations to Nazis (prior to US direct involvement).
So not only everyone needed to rebuilt, they also had to repay.
FYI the Germany reduced to rubble is a myth. Their 1945 postwar industrial output was still higher than 1939 prewar, even with all the damage. Its just that the pictures of city centres make it look like everything was fucked, but it was very, very far from it.
Meanwhile they stole intellectual property from all around Europe and capitalized on it for the next 20 years. Prime example being VW Beetle which was a ripoff of Tatra V570/T97.
“Military age men are rounded up.”
Says it all.
Didn’t that happen after the war?
Poland had higher losses relative to population size.
But hey, let’s not forget that Poland took part in the 1938 invasion of Czechoslovakia side by side with Nazis and Soviet Russia in 1939 invasion of Poland side by side with Nazis.
