In my opinion the inventory should have a max weight but more important it have to consider the volume of the objects: 2 Kg of gold? If it fit in the purse it’s all right. 2 Kg of cotton? Only with a backpack or with a horse.
I’m curious about the Inventory system, we know your horse will be able to carry things and you will have many slots to equip the character. So I hope (and think) we will get to see this system in Alpha.
I also think the Inventory should have a maximium weight (maybe with training you could increase the weight henry is able to carry, that would be nice). But since you need to eat and drink to stay healthy and can hunt / collect herbs to make potions with and have to carry clothes, armor and weapons, books and quest items (I hope we wont have to carry quest items that we dont need all the time) maybe some tent to set up a camp we will need a lot of inventory space, I dont think a normal guy would be able to carry so much. So could it be possible to have some kind of storage? Since we dont have any property I dont know if the horse is enough. But I dont want to carry all the things around all the time.
Maybe a small bumbag that you can put on could be nice for herbs and stuff. I dont know about backpacks at the time but that may be a solution, too
what are your thoughts?
I think your horse should not just be a replacable object you use to travel but like the jackdaw in AC Black Flag, where you can upgrade it (Horse armour/ horse “backpacks”). So, the horse would be your backpack kinda (Whole Statement: Horse should be your main backpack)
Many thoughts had been offered in-here… and I will add mine, although they might have been already written down, by others in this topic as well.
So, is there yet any WarHorse-ian call on the inventory-topic? Will it be almost realistic (similar to pen & paper style: the smaller/weaker a character, the less (s)he can carry, although the playable character is fixed? If wounded, are you getting weaker?
OR will there be one of those (sometimes convenient) “magical-blackhole-inventories”, where you can put a shield or spear into your pant’s pocket?^^
Edit asks: Will there be unisex size of armor pieces, or non-fitting armor as well, which has to be made fit (e. g. by cahracter, as a smithy…)?
I would rather not see “Damage” statistics, the “market price” of the item and it’s “weight” just by looking at it. I mean really? Who goes into homedepot (a home improvement store in America), picks up a hammer and goes… “Yup, 2 pounds, 4.95$, if I swung it, it’d prolly do 8 damage.” … No… A metal sword is a metal sword and you learn by experience or training how it’s best used on what. No stat numbers :I Though that probably may not happen.
This. So much of this (except that if you are in a store… You do see the price. But it only make ssense to not see it if you loot a sword on the field.). Of course this would require enough detail put on the items so that you can tell a sword in good condition from a bad one.
I think the best aproach to this is having an inventory with both a weight and a space limit (like 50kg, 10x10 “space”). You can fit items within those parameter, so for example you can carry 40kg of steel because it’s very dense and fits on your 10x10 frame, but you cant carry 20kg of cotton like somebody mentioned, because that’s way too big for your backpacks. Same the other way, you cant carry too much weight, even if it fits on your packs.
Additional pouches could be added to increase inventory space.
You guys are going to love my inventory system for my game. Be on the lookout for a game called Dungeons of Myth…I’m trying to make it as realistic as possible. Well…besides the magic…the magic is kind of Fantasy…
You lost me just after the first two sentences. Post is not clear at all.
