Upgrade from CryEngine 3 to CryEngine 4th generation

Where do they write about nextgen here? http://www.crytek.com/cryengine/cryengine3/overview

Do You have any reference of the technology behind the PBR of CryEngine4? I did not search for it yet, but I would be interested in it as well. A can only imagine that doing a switch from CE3 to CE4 and using this PBR feature requires also some redesign of the assets already made and maybe also including some more resources (meaning additional texture maps, UV sets, etc.). This would mean a lot of reworking of the current state
According to CIG/Star Citizen they needed to rework ALL of their assets to support PBR: comment at materials from a CIG Technical Artist, comment from Eric Peterson

System overhead due to DX or even OpenGL on PC is mainly concentrated on the CPU and memory level, both elements that are no bottlenecks for most of PC core gamers.
Yes you’re right, at least for most current (multiplatform) games. When engines begin to utilize OpenCL better this bottleneck will become important, e.g. games like KD:C that use a -not so simplified- physics/collision/interaction and (hopefully) a complex AI system. Btw, this is one of the reasons why e.g. PS4 has (fast) unified memory for CPU and device (= graphics card) to avoid the time consuming copying from main memory to device memory. On Kaveri this doesn’t seem so effective since the (used unified) main memory is still very slow.

@Westwood_Jarod: Please also have a look at the CryTek announcement posted above.

This first video I seen on gameplay for this was back in sept/oct of last year, wouldn’t be to sure as to which cryengine they are actually using. bottom line is it looks really good, and I would imagine they will do what ever it takes to make it look as good as possible.

speaking about cry engine and pbr though, the new star citizen vandul scythe ship look freaking awesome
IMO even better than crytek’s own demo and cig’s own avenger

my jaw floored, that is AAA movie level CG there.

unfortunately I’m not sure if such level of graphics will be possible for an open world land based game like KCD with much more objects in the environment that will also be on consoles.

does in game ryse even use pbr?

CryEngine next-gen looks awesome to me,imagine this game on CryEngine 4.

CIG gets continued support from CryTek and can use their latest engine builds:

Of course I don’t know if this is valid for the contract Warhorse has with CryTek though.
