why cant you use the longsword on horseback? are your wrists limp?
On the original kick starter page it says the longsword is slow and cannot be used on horse back.
in game overview combat weapons it says: “the longsword is strong, but slow and cannot be used from horseback.” https://www.kingdomcomerpg.com/game/overview
I do not have this im mind, sorry. My bad.
that’s alright, it’s war horse’s bad
I’m sure there’s a reason behind it. Perhaps balance?
i think it’s because it was rare and ineffective compared to regular swords or spears.
Some people think the developers are excluding longswords from horse combat for balance, or because it was rare and ineffective, but I think those are just excuses to be lazy.
If you’ve watched any of the video updates and followed this game heavily like i have, you would know these devs are anything but lazy.
it’s easy to just replace the regular sword model with the long sword on horseback. it’s far more likely that it’s done for aesthetic reasons, as long swords on horseback is cumbersome and doesn’t offer much improvement over other more wieldy weapons. it might happen or it might not, but in the end, having long sword on horseback is unimportant and no one really cares.
agreed. Not lazy at all but very passionate
I am pretty sure that spears and after the initial engagement, the short swords would work best.
It was my understanding that the game developers were going for realism, enable me to do what i can do in real life.
you can also attack enemy with butterknife in real life. realism in game involves a lot of restrictions as well as freedom, for aesthetic’s sake.
protip, your suggestion might get more traction if you presented it in a more comprehensive and convincing manner. two drawings from later periods and some sarcasm doesn’t help discussion. fyi
Here’s a historical note on this:
There is no such thing as a greatsword/claymore. A longsword has an extended handle in which you grasp the weapon two-handed. Arming swords (short swords) are your normal, average swords.
alrighty then “pro.” Firstly the bottom drawing is from the 1480’s at the latest http://www.thearma.org/Manuals/Solothurner.htm#.VXNBrc9Vikp
but even if it were from the 16th century I think its safe to say that people from the 14th century and early 15th century would have also been able to wield their longswords from horseback.
But more importantly- suppose you find yourself in a situation where you must get on a horse with foes chasing you down and you have only a longsword, now you’re just unarmed. Some might suggest that you should just always carry an arming sword, but that is the thinking that ommited the ability to shoot a shotgun while riding SHOTGUN in GTAV!
Well im not sure if its the correct time period but perhaps a horseman’s hammer would be the weapon of choice for Calvary at close quarters. It was very effective against plate.
if they wanted to maintain quality and not just do a rush job, there would need to be special animation for such usage. so time vs. reward consideration they chose not to implement at all. similar to the children dilemma. on the grand scale of priority, it was vetoed.
why certain styles and techniques were chosen over others can be chalked down to pervasiveness and commonality throughout history. there is simply more material and larger knowledge base to draw from, and you are not relying on just a few pictures.
and lets face it, without knowing context of those drawings, or how accurate the artist, we might as well put in blemmyes as well.
