13th Century Tatars!

Why! Make it unseen. All is good, but its worse of all the game! All i see - “Russians are coming!” Russians in a Kalka Battle or Lipitsa Battle… There is no way to get start-of-13th century armor in the end of 14th… maybe some elements and in worst condition… Even russians at 1380 did not wear that old junk!

I require that you calm down and try again. Please, express your thoughts in normal and consistent English.

Relax…read something on Cumans. According to historical sources (quite rare) the depiction of them is really ok (even though authors themselves admit that due to lack of sources they approached Cumans more creatively)

you can write everything you want, but not to accuse that game being unacurate.

They are not cumans of Great Steppe. They are hungarian knights
There were 2 major fashion trends

  1. Persian
  2. Italian

If you are steppe warrior - you get persian trend. Something like that:

And you can see italian fashion everywhere in the game.
Instead of that i see the russian retinue at Lipitsa Battle.

No, Cumans are not Hungarian knights=nobility!!! Hungarian nobility was very similar to rest of central europeans. Cumans are kind of mercenary army invited to hungary by hungarian kings (Bela I think? Not sure on this)

Game is near accurate everywhere except. of hungarian cumans.

That cumans are already 400 years without any contact of Great Steppe. They are not cuman mercenaries. They had lived there for 400 years. It is possible to have influence of persian trend from their neighbours, but they are part of european weapon and armor trends.
You wanna exotic in the game? Take russian or better polish armor and weapon. Poland is the most accurate source of hungarian cumans weaponry and tactics.

this was a design decision to make cumans stand out a bit more, it is not entirely implausible that they would wear some older designs while probably it would not be nearly as much as they do in game right now.

1-2 armors of 10-20 probably. But not every of! And in addition: cumans did not like heavy armor because of they had small light horses  They were typical light cavalry of that time.

More like 150 years, not 400. The first cumans found their new homes in 1239 the following years under King Béla IV

There were more refugees.

  1. Avars - children of Steppe themselvs
  2. Hungarians
  3. Pechenegs
    And then
  4. Cumans in 13 ct.

All of it is steppe culture.
Pechenegs and Cumans are both turks. So there is 400 years of turk culture.

Yes, thats true, but they didn´t lost their culture instandly just because they had to go to hungary, and they had their own settlements in Hungary under King Béla IV, and were transformed into a kind of guard forces directly tied to the Hungarian king. Thats why Sigismund still had them as his own personal forces under his command.

Yeah! So they had to have a look like their siblings: lithuanian tatars, nogais… with european influence.
Similar to polish or russian esquire.

Funny thing… I looked “Cumans” up in Wikipedia and the word “Cuman” means “blond”. The “Cumans” were called other names in various European languages, but all those words also meant “blond”. From this, it’s often wondered if the “Cumans” were actually Turkic despite speaking a Turkic language. In any case, given the meaning of their ethnic name, you’d think maybe that when you unmasked one of their corpses, you’d see a white guy with blond hair.

Ehhh. At the moment of mongol invasion there were russian-cuman ethnic join going on. Specially south russian.

I heard the russian historian of the Middle Ages Klim Zhukov turned to your studio with a proposal for consultation. Are you planning to cooperate with him? He is a very experienced specialist in medieval weapons and armor.
Sorry for Google translation.

this is where and why people need to relax some of their assumptions and preconceived notions about language, race and populations., esp ancient and medieval populations. history, archaeology, anthropological linguistics and population genetics have much to teach us
