2 things that are wrong with stealing difficulty imho

I find there are 2 things wrong with stealing:

  1. When just following the quest lines, it is impossible to get lockpicking up high enough for the later missions without grinding a gazillion of locked chests. You basically are forced to go on a “thieving spree run” all across the place. Even with the millers teaching. Problem 1) Feels very grindy. 2) This alone yields so much money that the missions feel meaningless in comparison. And maybe the player does not want to be a “thieving scum” that opens any chests they can find.

  2. If you decide to roleplay a real thief that also steals from the poor, ok, but here still the overall profit is way too high. The reward is insane and the AI is not intelligent enough to really be a problem. Within 2 hours you have several thousand gold. Combine that with a horse, and even the carry limit while stealing is no limitation anymore, as you can directly teleport the stolen goods to your horse outside.

Solution:
-Missions should not contain very hard containers
-General loot in poor peoples chests should be much lower in value
-Optional: Dont allow moving items to horse, if its not very close.

used any of the books that will boost L/P? I think there is at least 2-3
You don’t hafta steal. just unlock and leave.

That would be even less immersive, no? You break into random houses to pick locks, and leave without a job done. If training would be the solution, then maybe more trainers could be a thing. Or more training allowed from Pekesch?

am only working within the game mechanics. I am on PC and could use a command to be a perfect 20 but do not( weeelll mebbe a 10  ). I try to play the game & not over analyze it.

BTW: Where do you find LP books?

Stealing from book shelve from rooms and offices, From Town scribes.
Traders( tho not many books on hand) look for “who needs a key” books

Okay, I actually didnt even had to open the very hard chests. The recipe for the quest was in the shelf. I had to google it, because I was stuck. So I take that back. The whole approach made the impression I had to lockpick the very hard chests, because “using” the shelf already showned me its inventory, and I would have never guessed, that their is an item on the shelf that is not shown when you used the shelf. Or am I actually not using the shelf but somthing else??!? It is hard to tel, because you do not get a hilight of the object you are interacting with.

Anyway, for the Stephanie heist things seem to be in a chest.
Seems like I am not the only person contemplating on the flow of these quest lines:

You can level very quickly just by running around any village (preferably at night) and just open the villagers doors when they sleeping (most are easy) just don’t get caught and watch out for guards. you can get to level 10 lock picking very quickly this way
