3D sound effect for KCD

I see this video some time ago, but I think I have never seen a game that incorporates… is a really really realistic sound system!

Nobody knows something about?
(i’m not a english speaker, sorry for the language possibles errors)

I think the sound effects are going to be really great with, or without it. I don’t think anything like this will be in game.

But it makes feel like you are really there. Sound effects are probably more important, then visual effects by me.

Yes, this would be cool as authentic sound (and sound positioning) is very important for immersion. I think making this kind of 3D sound effect is rather demanding on the CPU, but I’m not certain. Would be cool if they added support for TrueAudio from AMD to offload the CPU and allow this kind of immersion from the audio.

Both GPU manufacturers have audio drivers now, utilising the GPGPU architecture to process audio like a DSP chip. I don’t know of any generic API though.

@GenialityOfEvil Ah, maybe they do! I only know of AMD’s “TrueAudio” tech though and that there are a few devs that have announced the feature in their games (Thief and Lichdom are the ones I can think of right now), and it would be cool to see what these DSP chips may enable soundwise for games

I find the adoption of Mantle and TrueAudio pretty hilarious given that AMD criticised Nvidia for developing the same APIs years ago with CUDA. This was right before AMDs GPGPU efforts went down the toilet.

@GenialityOfEvil the difference is that AMD’s solutions are open while nVidia use a closed approach. AMD has even said that they might consider handing over Mantle to for example Khronos Group when it has been better developed as it is beta right now. Same with G-sync and Freesync, AMD wants open standards while nVidia vouch for closed.
