The game really needs a 3rd person view. I understand the realism goal. But the option to switch from 3rd person to first person is great. Seeing the game in another perspective is always a nice addition to the game. Keeps it alive doing alittle combat in another view. When it comes to sword fighting both views are pretty much needed in my opinion. I’m sure there will be the realism fanboys being all about just first person. I may support the game but I always enjoy my 3rd person view in hand to hand combat. Not having a 3rd person is quite the turnoff for me. Game looks pretty amazing so far and well done.
This has already been talked on this forum ad nauseum.
NO!
I don’t have anything against third person games, I just think that a game should choose one perspective and stick with it. Trying to balance both perspectives at once leads only to declining quality of both.
The first person perspective in melee combat is IMHO one of the main draws for this game. Breaking from the mold that close combat games are third person and the first person perspective is reserved for ranged combat and horror games may be challenging, but also really enjoyable.
Hard to please 3rd person fans by just giving them a perspective to enjoy? Look at what gta v is doing with 3rd person and now first person for pc… And it works out great. They know how to please their fans. It’s an addition to kingdom that would be nice for pc atleast. Sticking to one perspective isn’t always the best option to some types of games. I have nothing against playing the game in first person but do prefer these types of games in 3rd person with the option for first person. I’m sure this has been talked to death and not changing sadly. But if I see a 3rd person mode being implemented I’ll definitely back it for a decent amount of $
And the other perspective was released AFAIKseveral months later than the game itself. Actually when I just checked, it looks like the other perspective was announced more than year after initial release.
I would be OK with this. Finish the game with one perspective and than take aditional year or so to polish the alternative perspective,
While I can understand your desire for third person, and to a point I believe that third person addresses a major flaw inherent in first person for a game like this (namely, that the field of view is FAR narrower than what you’d have IRL and virtually eliminates the peripheral vision you SHOULD have), this is the route they’ve chosen to go.
You could argue the pros and cons of both systems until you’re blue in the face. It’s really no different than realism debates with air combat simulators: Some players INSIST that having range counters and icons is unrealistic and shouldn’t be used because they make it too easy to spot, identify, and judge the closing or opening rate of another aircraft. However there’s also the argument that said counters compensate for the limitations of 2D displays with less than real-life resolutions: unlike real life, a sim pilot has NO depth perception, making judging whether an object is closing or not unintuitive, plus the limits of display resolution and monitor size means that objects on the screen are far smaller than they should be (IE, at a range of 6000 yards, the B-17 Flying Fortress’s apparent wingspan is about 19 arc minutes. As a point of comparison, the moon’s apparent diameter is about 30 arc minutes, so the B-17 would have an apparent wingspan about 2/3 the moon’s apparent diameter. This means that even thoug you can’t identify the TYPE, you would still be able to recognize it’s a four-engine aircraft at 6000 yards. However in many sims for home PCs, at 6000 yards you’re lucky to get a black pixel). A real life pilot with the level of visual acuity represented by most computer displays would be LEGALLY BLIND!
It all comes down to immersion in the end, and it was decided that, despite the limitations, the immersion of first person was far more important to the aesthetic of the game.
Now, once the game is actually released I wouldn’t be surprised if one of, if not THE, first community mods is a third person camera (and I’m sure the second will probably be turning Henry into Henrietta). So if you’re insistent on third person, you really just have to wait.
Well I consider myself realism fanboy and thats why I’m for 3rd person actually (Ambaryerno described it well) and also becouse they already have got the 3rd person view in dialogs, while herb picking and use it during development. Also Im afraid that the 1st person camera combat I saw will makes me feel sick a bit (head moves while atrack, player gets hit)
But have to say, if you miss a good game just becouse of view option then you are really doing bad business. Specially if you are looking for something that specific as realistic medieval.
But GTA did not do that on launch cause it need extra work.
aproximatelly 20-30% of community is reason why there wont be 3rd person.
They are too stupid to understand that nothing would be changed in this game just there will be + option witch allows you to use 3rd person view.
Hey hey hey. I said the game should open with ‘‘would you like to play in 1st or 3rd person?’’ then once chosen you can begin to play. I’m one of those 30% thank you very much.
You should be able to switch seamlessly between 1st and 3rd person. For those who don’t like 3rd person, they never have to use it.
I prefer to switch between 1st and 3rd person, depending on what I’m doing. I can tolerate being restricted to 1st person, but I would prefer having the option to switch between both. And I don’t think they would have to “perfect” 3rd person view, or including 3rd person would make 1st person less polished. 3rd person view already exists for this game. You’re essentially using the same 1st person controls, you’re just seeing it from over the shoulder, etc. So, in essence, it would function exactly like Skyrim. Combat in Skyrim was easier 1st person. Yeah, you could do it 3rd person, and maybe even get good at it, but it was MADE to work best 1st person. That’s exactly how they should approach here.
Most people use 3rd person so they can see their character walk around. They then switch to 1st person when fighting, or looking at objects in front of them, etc. When doing any crafting, etc., you would be forced to use 1st person.
Options are good. They appease everyone.
I’m not exactly against third person, but this game was originally intended for first person. So let it be first person. Plus this game will be modded, so third person mods will most likely be available.
I think exactly the same thing!
I realize that’s my limit but unfortunately 1st person rpg are fallen out of my favor, I agree that it is a great loss not enjoy a good game just because it’s only in 1st person … the choice is always an excellent alternative … so you do not displeased anyone;) Skyrim Rules!
It doesn’t really matter what it was intended to be if it’s not causing them to waste time and resources on third person. Third person already exists. In fact, in one of their videos they commented that when they test, they often do so in third person. There’s no point in forcing first person onto people (or third person for that matter). Having options doesn’t hurt anyone.
As for modding, not everyone is getting the game for PC, so that isn’t a solution for everyone.
Thanks for the support on the 3rd person matter. I have to agree Skyrim is a main reason why I’m suggesting to allow players to switch between first person and third person. I enjoy having the option for both. Modding is just for pc gamers and the consoler welfare gamers will get the shaft for an easily implemented feature. I didn’t realize they already had third person setup which makes all arguments against it invalid.
Yes, skyrim had 1st and 3rd person view. But guess what? The combat sucked balls, and so did alot of the animations.
I don’t think it was that bad compared to all the other games out there at its time. Plus the mods have expanded the game beyond great. I’m also not sure how that matters to kingdom having 1st and third person view? from the videos kingdom didn’t look much different from skyrim. Granted it’s not nearly done yet. Also Skyrim had to put into consideration it wasn’t just fighting humans. It was fighting all sorts of monsters as well. On land, water and Air. That’s a lot more effort to put into than just humans fighting each other. I’m not arguing that this should be a Skyrim clone. I’m saying the option which Skyrim gave the player to enjoy their style of play was a smart move. It would be silly not to give the people that option in kingdom.
As s game developer myself I’m telling them it would be a foolish move that would lower sales. Game developers have a problem of not listening to the community and doing what they feel is right. Which by all means is their choice but on this topic which has been beated to death it’s really a no brainer. Players want more options within games. A lot of companies are limiting options to the players in order to save money etc. but as I’ve been told 3rd person is already in game and being used to test combat… I really see no reason to give the player a 3rd person view. Seems very… Odd… I dread games like this which only have 1 view… I lose interest for some reason. Same with just 3rd person… There’s times I want to be right in the action in first person. Then there’s times I want to see how badass I looked taking guys down…
What kind of 3rd person are we talking about? Like the one in war of the roses or the camera even further removed from the body?
I would argue that it should be adjustable like Skyrim is. I can’t argue enough that options are good, especially if they aren’t taking away dev time from more important things.
