So, I just saw that the game requires 8GB of RAM.
It’s okay for me, but not that many people have 8GB…and you could saw how angry people got when call of duty ghosts required 6…you should fix that guys.
There is no final requirements info released. Only estimates based upon the characteristics of PCs we currently use for running the unpolished deep-in-development version of the game and upon the hardware of consoles we aim for too. As of late 2015 8 GB RAM should be the standard nonetheless as then already 2 years old consoles have 8 Gigs (of shared memory so RAM+VRAM). 8GB games are coming already anyway.
What it seems happened with CoD Ghost is that the requirements was just a simple forced check in order to call it next gen while the game itself didn’t need that much memory by far. This is not the case with us. We run heavy simulation on a big set of more or less persistent entities in a vast area. The game is being designed with these simulations in mind. We could “fix” that by hiding some heavy-load areas (cities) behind loading screen (like Elder Scrolls has to do it on last gen consoles; or like FNV had to spit Vegas into 3 parts just to make it run on consoles) but do you want that? If we do this it would however greatly impact the design and render the concept a bit pointless as simulations would only happen in closed and limited environments. So after all I think (also concerning RAM modules prices) 8GB is one of the least concerns if you want this game running properly.
No matter what however we will optimize the hell out of it as it is our best interest as well - the more optimized the deeper the simulation on more entities.
EDIT - With the launch of the store, 8GB RAM is now official.
For what it’s worth, my primary laptop is around a year old and came with 8 GB RAM. I don’t want to say “everyone will have 8 GB RAM CPUs by the time this game comes out” but there’s a lot that will be changing in the computer world over the next year and a half. I doubt this will be a major issue by then. 8 GB RAM may well be on the low end of what a basic system has.
Well, I personally dont have problem with that.
I have 8GB RAM, so it’s okay for me, I’m just concerned about other people.
People love to tout the ease of customization as a big reason why CPUs are superior to consoles - and it’s a fair argument I’m not getting into beyond the mention of the point - but that also means I’m not going to feel all that bad for people who don’t have a system that meets the basic requirements by the time the game comes out. They have more than enough time to think about what a CPU will need by then in order to run the game effectively.
Its very easy to upgrade your RAM. Even a complete amateur can do it by himself and RAM cost so low that its almost laughable. Its one of the cheapest PC components. 4GB cost around 40-50$ And your PC will be much quicker with higher RAM.
If you are low on slots, just sell the ones you have and buy bigger ones.
Yep, no question it’s a very simple upgrade, dating back to the times when 1 GB of RAM was cutting edge.
Come to think of it, the desktop CPU I’ve still got that’s about six years old now (but still pretty quick) came with 3 GB RAM in it. Think I’ll look into upgrading that just because.
Side effect of putting the 64-bit version of Win 8.1 on my old CPU that used to run 32-bit XP? I can go from 3 GB to 6 GB RAM and benefit from it.
This thing came with 2 each of 512 MB and 1 GB memory, so I just swapped the 512s out for a pair of 2 GB instead. Didn’t need to really go all the way to 8 GB on that yet since it’s more of a secondary CPU now, but I can always get a couple more 2 GB if and when I need them. The monitor I have is large enough that this game would look pretty nice on it, so I may give it a shot on that when the time comes for alpha and beta. Seems it’d be a good way of testing how powerful the rest of it is, too.
After all the crap that ended up on the old system from a number of years of adding this and that, it’s nice to have a “cleaner” operating system again after I moved all the important stuff to an external HD first.
You want to play modern game and don’t have 8GB RAM in 2014? In that case you shouldn’t try to play games on the office computer.
If people don’t even have 8 GB of ram, they shouldn’t be playing PC games.
I expect the game to recommend 12 or 16 GB of RAM
8 GB RAM are already kind of standard for GAMING PCs (not PCs in general).
And of course 8 GB RAM will be the minimum standard in PC gaming in 2015 or even 2016. I expect most core gamers to have at least 12 or 16 GB RAM by the time the game will hit the market.
For what it’s worth, the two packs of 2 GB RAM I picked up today were $40 each. By the time the game comes out I expect that to be even less, and more powerful memory should be just as accessible.
This is really a non-issue with where CPU memory will be by late 2015, let alone now.
Yeah indeed, 8 GB is the norm so to speak. That said if you can snatch a good deal 2 x 4 GB sticks will cost you less than 50 bucks so I doubt that would be a problem.
That’s 50 bucks today. I don’t know about the rest of the world but here in Sweden RAM-prices has decreased over the years. It’s not like RAM is expensive. Also, if you need to get more RAM, you probably need to get a new computer anyways so RAM should be the least of your concerns!
Well my mobo can handle 24 gigs so I am set
well i may be able to handle it with my 32GB RAM im sure in 30 years time ill get to use the other 24GB
I’m surprised more people haven’t upgraded to 8GB’s, I mean its pretty much the cheapest upgrade and the easiest to install.
8 gb ram now official? where?
when you access the shop and click a tier, there are requirements for the final product.
