A Love Letter To Warhorse

Dear Warhorse,

Thank you. Thank you so much. This is the game I have been looking for. I cannot put it down, so much so that I don’t even think about picking up another game. Usually I’d be ready to start the new game by now (heck, there are so many good ones out now and coming up this year, after all).

I love that I don’t feel overwhelmed by an immense amount of quest. It has just the right amount for me. I always feel so overwhelmed by games like Skyrim and Witcher with the 250+ side quest, most of which are just boring fetch quest. Many of the KCD quest are just fantastic. I feel the drive to finish all of them.

I love that you have that wonderful road map to more stories, quest, etc. I like the slow introduction to more quest without overwhelming me with too much to do. (especially too much nonsense and boredom, like many games with 250+ quest)

I love how unique and ambitious this game is. It deserves better than the reviewers (who I tend to disagree with cougheffyougamespotandigncough, anyway) gave it credit for. It’s a wonderful game. I simply love it! Yes, please continue to support this game. I will gladly give you my money, when I don’t evern want to do this for so-called AAA companies. Get mine and other’s money so you can produce more risk taking, amazing, wonderful, fabulous games! psst… I’d love to see a sci-fi rpg with this much ambition.

At first I hated the combat. I hated being a noob. I just wasn’t use to that. But eventually I came to love it. It makes so much sense and gives you a sense of accomplishment once you get the hang of it. It’s still hard when surrounded by plated bandits or Cuman, but now I know enough to survive against them. I am actually trying to max out all of my combat skills. This is a magnificent combat system. I am not sure how I’d tweak it, I feel it still needs something, but I don’t know what. I feel like the idea is on the tip of my tongue. Maybe it’s the blocking, where all you need to do is block in one direction to block ALL directional attacks, or how I could just mash the stab button until I run out of stamina, back off til it replenishes, then go back at it again (i don’t do this, I try to pull off combos and such). Just some thoughts, maybe I’m wrong.

If I had to give some advice… 1) the wilderness needs more. Not just boar, 3 type of dear, and hares. It needs dangerous wildlife! Bears! Mountain lions! Or something. 2) Along with this, lower the amount of hunted meat you can get off of one critter by A LOT. Which can then be turned into mass amounts of money in early game. 3) I think it’s way too easy to get the best equipment well before mid game. I don’t think it should be this easy to equip yourself. You can get so much money and so much equipment early game. i.e. 4) … those two chest in Rattay where you can find 75k to 200k worth of items in them, and remove the treasure maps, which was maybe a bad idea. Just keep the ancient map ones in.

This feels like a proper rpg. I love it more than Skyrim or The Witcher 3 (which I never finished Witcher 3). It’s just an amazing game, because of the ambition and scope of what you tried to do. Even within the confines of the realism and strictness you built into it. It’s a great first attempt at a game. I sincerely hope you keep making content and more games!

This video is from one of my favorite youtube reviewers, he’s an angry reviewer in general, but tends to tell it like it is. He loved your game, too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y80jiJvr8HA&t=281s
