A way to fix Lockpicking for consols

Lock picking is easy…

No that is the fun part of the game. You are not forced to do the same thing as everyone else.

Look People I play both pc and console version. and the sheer differnece in difficulting is very plain to see. hell i even tried hooking my mouse and keyboard to the ps4 just to get past the first too locks (didnt work go figure XD) and i have a steady hand and rather adept at games. skyrim’s lockpicking was cake, the only hard part was finding the sweetspot, oposed to this, where you have to move one stick (right) to FIND the sweetspot, easy as pie! but then you have to TURN that stick even if its at an awkard angle WHILE turning the rightstick and try to keep it centered or close to the sweet spot. i dont know about most you, but i got big fingers. so i constantly find myself catching at the bottom of the joystick and having a hard time moving it if the stick his the bottom. i end up either breaking to lick or losing all progress. so yes i would say that lock picking IS a bit unfair, yes it may get easier over time. but here’s the problem. how can we get better if thge picks keep breaking? how much coin do we have to throw away to get more picks? how many days do we have to wait for the next attempy? you say it’s easy, but just because its simple for you doesnt mean it’s just as simple or easy for others. put yourself in their shoes using their body their controller’s their system and then say the same thing. the point is. it needs to be eased up a bit, fixed. if it was such a minority of people thats saying it needs to be fixed then why would they even slate it for an update on fixing it? Obviously the Dev’s think its unfair too.

We all know how it works. Im not very good at this kind of hand eye coordination, but i didnt just give up i took some time to learn it and (like every skill in life) it gets easier

I have, on average, about an hour to play games in the evening. I don’t want to spend that hour playing a lockpicking minigame.

Then stop lock picking

Look im not trying to be a jerk, im just saying this is a true sandbox experience. Try a different way, open your mind to thinking outside the box. Not everyone that plays must be an expert thief. Literally the only reason i forced myself to get good at it, is because i just had to prove it to myself

not on xbox its not easy.

Lockpicking is really hard on ps4 only at start when you are not well trained. Imho they should just increase the margin of error for very easy locks on console… After you are trained it becomes quite ok, but only if you hold the controller totally differently than it should be held.
Hold you controller inbetween your legs and use multiple fingers on both sticks, turn off vibrations in ps4 menu, turn the left stick to the bottom and start from there… PROFIT!
Without this gimmick, I do not fight the game mechanics, but the controller itself (doing full circles while sweating with one finger is really hard), which is not how it should be.

I play xbox. Just a learning curve

learning curve i could understand but i mean i litteraly have not opened the chest, not even close.

How many picks have you broken? Also try “very easy” until you are so good at very easy you need more challenging

So how do you get trained if you are unable to open a single chest. i’e been at the trainer guy reloading my save because i’ve not once opened his chest, never even close. left stick start at top, once i rotate it left and its at bottom, the lock stops moving at all then pick is broke. no matter where i start left stick lock always stops at bottom. so tell me how am i supposed to get better?

im at trainer guy the miller i think use his up then reload save over and over.

You gain skill even if you break the pick(in game skill) . Plus the chest is “easy” you need to work on “very easy”.

When i first started playing i broke all the picks without opening it. I moved on doing other things breaking picks as i bought or found a very few of them.

I snuck into the executioners house, he came in and sit down to eat, i snuck up behind him and choked him out. Took the key and unlocked the ability to sell stolen goods to the miller. I would choke people out and steal their stuff (careful not to be seen) then sold stolen stuff to the miller. The miller had limited funds so i took the opportunity to trade full stack of picks off him. I used them to both get better as a player and character skill. Its an investment to get good at lock picking.

When your lock stops its because you probably pushed the lock faster than your right stick, when this happens i keep the right stick in the same position and rotate back with left stick and then back forward to "get back on track "

You’d be surprised how easy it gets after level 3. Before I was welcoming the change in lockpicking, now I’m completely fine with the way it is. Practice! Practice! Practice!

To elaborate, both sticks should rotate counter clockwise at the same speed. Being human we will inevitably fail a little . So when you have either rotated too much or too little with the left stick you have to rotate clockwise then back to counter clockwise. Typically getting back on track will result in breaking a pick until you get good enough to realize you’re messing quickly

also, where the sweet spot is changes. If you’re having trouble just back out of the attempt and try again; after all, you make noise when you’re in the mini game so you don’t want to be noticed. Also, keep resetting your attempt until the sweet spot is more near the center of the circle, as opposed to the outside ring. You will not have to rotate nearly as far due to the sweet spot being on the inside of the track, and as I said you can keep restarting the mini game until you get the spot where you want it. Keep at it man, it gets rewarding once you’re popping chests.
