About fighting style in this game, is it Medieval style or Renaissance style?

sorry for my poor English.

I had played alpha 0.4 , and it was very good.

however, when I played combat practice, I got some questions.

In my think, combat style(I mean how they stand, grab a sword. is it called guard or something?)in current KCD is based on Renaissance long sword style. And Renaissance combat is combat for non-armor, as far as I know.(yeah, they also have some armor fighting but not much as medieval)

but in KCD, there are many armors. so I think Medieval style is better for KCD, including wrestling, half swording, Harnischfechten and etc.

I must confess that I don’t know specific difference between Medieval combat style and Renaissance combat style. but it just looks similar to Renaissance than Medieval, just for my eye.

so, anyone who know better than me, please tell me about this.
and the actors for the motion capture, is he based on medieval or renaissance?

thanks for your time.

I think that what have you seen in Alpha 0.4 is 1 vs 1 fight and maybe what you keep in mind is type of fight that you can see in medieval film, during siege battle with lot of enemy around you,
in 1 vs 1 fight you have to stay more concetrated and this type of fight is slowest than a fight during a siege (for example).

you are mixing things up.

Both medieval period and Renaissance period fight books cover the two types of fighting -
Armored and unarmored.

Currently the standard attacks are (mostly) based on unarmored, but when you make a perfect parry, some of the “moves” do include half-swording and pommel strikes.
(if you just stand and watch the AI fight you will see them from time to time)

I would love more half-swording, wrestling and similar, but the current system is already a huge challenge to make…

How would you make a system for wrestling, in a first person game?

Please don’t apologize for your English. Your English is great!! This goes for everyone out there who starts off apologizing. Most of us who primarily speak English appreciate your efforts greatly. It is very nice that you learned English

watch sec. 40 Wrestling animations are possible even in first person

that’s not “wrestling”, that’s highly stylized hollywood grappling, and it’s a completely canned animation. that type of engaged animation is already in the alpha, and done with much better purpose and function.

sure this move isnt realistic, but the principe is the same. A fight with wrestling elements can be fluently and without orientation issues even in first person perspective.

did you play the alpha? the first person fighting/grappling is already better than that
