Agro vs. Podgragros (horses)

I am at the point where I have to decide between stables and guardhouse. I really want the guardhouse, but I also want a black horse that kicks arse.

Agro is the obvious choice, but I’m wondering if I could get Podgragros instead and, when combined with the top horsemanship perks, Podgragros’ poor courage won’t make any difference.

Thoughts? Thanks.

Kanthaka is my boy. Never been thrown. Only been pulled off a few times and strictly my fault. Reasonable balance between speeed, endurance and carry cap. Heavy Pony perk and Military horse shoes and I don’t really see how one could get a better horse. Fighting on horse back is a bad idea in the game, only thing it seems to accomplish is to destroy your tack and possibly cause you to get knocked down/cause your horse to take a knee temporarily. Horse’s primary function is mobility, increased carry weight (essentially infinite because the horse can carry a rider at full speed no matter how heavy the rider is over-encumbered) and a mobile cache so that one doesn’t have to return to base.

I find horses to be more effective at ramming the ennemy at high speed instead of actually fighting them with your sword from horseback. Ramming will injure and kill opponents.

Really!? I might have to try that. I had assumed that, in combat, the horse collisions functioned the same as outside combat, i.e., no collision to speak of, though the passers by certainly seem to “THINK” there is collision . . .

If I have to pick one recurrent design element of the game that irks me it is this: lack of consistency in how the games physics, mechanics and “rules” work. It is forgiveable as a first project but it is not top notch design.

Yeah, I’ve been known to have Jenda trample a well armored bandit a few times before dismounting and taking credit for the kill, lol.

Yes, but you will need a few passages and hits before they start dying. First, they will start walking as if they are crippled or injured.

ramming is very effective
so is jumping on NPC’s heads

None of the horses from the stables have a model as good as Pod. Also, Agro is brown, not black. Shadowmere has clearly better stats, but an inferior model with brown hair instead of black.
