If you find ulrich while he’s sleeping at the tavern, and begin the part to enter the mine, he will be wearing no armour.

bugs been around for a while. guess 1.6 didn’t address it 
not optimistic about clothes finding their way on Sir Hans and a looted Rattay guard in one of my playthroughs

Same happened to me. He died.
When I went back to sasau, where his room was, I could loot his chest and got all his stuff 
I took his Knight waffenrock from his chest and swapped with better gear… hoping he’d be a maxed out companion. Nope 
. Just a crazy dude in his undies

I hoped for help, because there were so many enemies.
In the end I had to fight them alone nevertheless 
Now I have that waffenrock too 
In my game, he fought just one guy, I beat the rest. Such great companion, and at the end he wanted to fail my quest.
My other bug with this quest is that after Ulrich and I go to the camp, I run into the tunnel, cutscene with Jezhek begins, Ulrich steps in, there should be a dialogue with Ulrich at this point, but suddenly I’m back in the game and Ulrich is falling to the ground dead! Also, the journal log says I killed him in a duel earlier (which I didn’t - we just had a lovely chat). It doesn’t break the quest, it doesn’t count as a kill in my statistics, but it makes no sense whatsoever.
And no idea whether it’s related, but ever since this quest and 1.6, I “improve herbalism” every time I sleep even though I’m already at level 20. This could be due to an unfinished book, but surely the message should be different if there is nothing more to improve.
I think you probably stole his armour earlier in the game, because I did that and he turned up in his pyjamas too. Soooooo not a bug.
No, I can confirm that when you talk to Ulrich later in the day when he is about to sleep, he heads out in his PJs. My current Henry is a goodie through and through, so no stealing.

I did not steal his armour, I just was talking to him while he slept.
It could also be that another thief NPC took his stuff. Expect the unexpected in this game.

this always happened to me since day 1, but i always robbed his ass while he slept at the tavern. so i just assume im doing it to my self. lol well did u rob him? the 1 out 3 times where i didnt rob his armor, we dual at the tree , he surrenders. you have to be quick, when he surrenders and drops his weapons and i quickly loot them. lol after that when he goes to the cave with u, for me he was all armored up but only could punch people lolol
For me, we had a nice chat at the tree, he went on his ways and I investigated further to the point where I have to talk to him.
He was sleeping in his room, I didn’t knew better, so I approached him and boom, we were confronting the bandits in daytime and he was in his undies.
Of course he died, found keys on him. I headed back to sasau and found all his gear in his trunk.
That guy was so eager, he forgot to prepare
