Alpha 0.3 on HD 5970 unplayable

It’s still unplayable. I tried RadeonPro to disable crossfire, but even with low settings in 1280x800 I get < 30 FPS; it’s not just the FPS usually 20 <> 25 but also stuttering which freezes the whole scene for a second (interestingly doesn’t affect the FPS).

I guess my system won’t even match the minimum system requirements.

Specs in detail:

CPU: Intel Core i7-980X
RAM: 12GB (2x Kingston HyperX DIMM Kit 6GB PC3-12800U CL7-7-7-20)
GFX: XFX Radeon HD 5970 Black Edition
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7, X58
OS: W7Pro 64bit
Drivers:
Driver Packaging Version 14.501.1003-141120a-177998C
Catalyst Version 14.12
2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1443
Direct3D Version 9.14.10.01080
OpenGL Version 6.14.10.13283
Catalyst Control Center Version 2014.1120.2123.38423

Both CPU/GPU looks good. What ingame resolution are you using? Could you please try Catalyst 15.3 Beta instead of 14.12 ? I’m not sure about the RAM. You have 12GB total (2x 2x 3GB), right? That should be enough. Just 6GB would be low.

Thanks for the feedback!

  • Yes, it’s 12GB (I edited my OP so it’s more clear)
  • As said, I’m running on 1280x800 with low settings (anything higher and it even gets more unusable)

I’ve updated to 15.3Beta. I can’t tell if anything has changed for the better; it certainly didn’t get worse.

Here is more information, I’m trying to get across how it feels playing:

As can be seen in the video, the two most problematic things right now are the FPS and the stuttering. Their combination makes it literally unplayable in it’s current state.

thx

Your CPU is great.Buy new GPU R9 290x or GTX 970 and your computer will run KCD maxed out in 1920x1080.Your currently GPU is old and inefficient.

That graphics card USED TO be great but it doesnt cut it anymore.

The Alpha is not very optimized either, so its being more demanding than the final game should be (although who knows…)

We test our game on ATI 6850 and it works fine on lower resolutions (like 720p) even with the High settings. The truth is it’s the slowest card in our company. Your problem could be HDD instead. We are streaming a lot (too much to be honest), so if the HDD is overloaded, it could easily stop the game for a while here and there. Could you try to copy the game on to an SSD?

Hi,

seems I never realized I got an answer  Anyway, I think we can all now lean back and relax as the 5970 card broke two months ago and I replaced it with a RX 480. Oh, and yes, I did copy the game to the SSD finally.

Funny thing is, no matter which settings, from “Low” to “Very High”, I always get 28-32 FPS. Obviously, it looks better on “Very High” so that’s it for now

I’m glad you can finally play our game. Yes, the bottleneck is now on CPU as we have too many things using main thread.

Ok, thanks for the info! :+1:

Exciting to looking forward. I’ve an older CPU but at least it got 6 cores ( the i7-980X EE), hopefully this make for a smooth experience once finished  [but, no pressure, haha]
