Alternate Archery

I hear quite a lot of people complaining about archery, cause the hands and the bow start to shake after a few seconds of aiming. I think that system fits perfectly, BUT the problem is: its really quite difficult to shot wild animal, like…say, a rabbit. So I have an idea: you could implement not just one, but two kinds of bows:

a long bow (much like the current one)
and a “Hunting Bow”, with wich aiming is much easier, but it doesn’t make that much damage.

I think that would be very interesting In-Game; you can use the Hunting Bow for shooting rabbits and deer, but also for training your aiming skill.

I think that you are ignoring the fact that it’s RPG. You are supposed to gain your skill overtime, which means that at first you will be shaking and your aiming will be terrible, and once you will level up archery, you will become bettter and eventualy the shaking will be minimal if not absent at all.

It’s only logical that as a beginner you won’t be able to shot a rabbit. Only after you will have some experience with archery, you will be able to do that…

Even if you are supposed to improve your stats the shaking like it´s implemented at the moment makes absolutely no sense.

I´d rather like to see bows with different draw weights or something like that - so you can´t use the bow to the full extent or can´t use it at all if your strength is too low.

The sway makes literally no sense what so ever. If a bow is too powerful for you then you will not be able to pull it back, or you will tremble but you don’t sway all over the place. On the idea of a hunting bow i sorta agree with that how ever the main focus of the game will not be hunting so i really dont see the point of making an entirely new bow just for that. Plus you wouldn’t want to try and shoot anything bigger than a rabbit with a small hunting bow.

I agree that the sway is a little too exaggerated, not that in your character sways but that it should be tighter and faster. honestly i think that the system is in place and they probably just need to tweak a few values like motion vector and speed. it also makes sense to me that as you level up/improve skills the detriment to your bow will be lessened. and it also makes sense that there will be multiple bow types, along with other weapon variations, in the game. there won’t just be one type of sword, they’ve already confirmed that. so it seems to go without saying there would be other bows. and each will have their own pluses/minuses to draw speed, poundage, piercing power, range, etc. and i can’t remember but was the stamina bar hooked into the bow drawing in the alpha? because if not then that will probably change things like how long you can be drawn before you shake, how far back the string is drawn, etc. like if you’ve been running and are super low on stamina, then try to draw your bow, you might not be able to or you’ll only draw it enough to shoot an arrow like 10m or so, with little to no power (like a lobbing arrow that would barely stick in a tree.) i think they have the elements in place but there’s still plenty they have to do to perfect it and get it working with the skill/stamina systems or any other systems that might come into play. i think honestly if the current sway simply happened faster that it would be much closer to a real beginner trying to keep a bow drawn, and that likely is just a simple value tweak. plus hunting CAN be a main focus of the game. if i want to just go out and hunt, i don’t think there’s going to be anything in the game stopping me from doing this. just like thieving could be, or smithing, or any of the other mini-games/gameplay elements. the only driving force will be the story but as an open-world game you choose when you continue on with the story, so this suggestion of multiple bows for different situations seems perfectly logical and likely to happen in the final release.

That´s the point - you don´t wanna keep such a bow in full draw.
Normally you´d draw and loose.

And even if you are a beginner trying to hold such a bow in a draw you wont start wandering around like it is in the game.
Your drawhand would likely start to shake a bit as you couldn´t hold back the string any longer and your bowhand would get instable which would lead you to go out of the draw.
No chance you would be wandering around with the bowhand as you wouldn´t be able to hold the draw in the first place.

And if a value is connected to draw and ability to hold a draw it should be strength and not stamina.
