Man the derail train hit this thread hard!
I never shit on British troops is simply stated the facts that they get destroyed in Asia during ww2. Burma was lost in a matter of weeks for the British. The U.S troops fought the pacific war alone until Russia showed during the last few months of the war. @thiomay you claim that is why most Europeans hate Americans yet Europeans take credit for ww2 just as much as we do. George calls me uneducated yet provides no hard facts to prove his claim that the British fought just as much in the pacific. I never once called British troops stupid cowboys who apparently just run across mine fields like he said about U.S troops. @JimLeCreep an average Vietnam could not hit something at 25 meters(around 75 feet) Thats horse shit im not a trained solider and i can hit hit a target easily at 75 feet. You claim the only reason russia lost in afgan was because of the united states backing them. Well let me tell you a little known fact RUSSIA AND CHINA BOTH BACKED THE VIET CONG THE NORTH VIETNAMESE ARMY AND THE NORTH KOREAN ARMY. You condemn us for taking land from the Indians yet there is not a single country in Europe that didnât conquer at one point. The British are not the true inhabitants of the British isles. The Scottish and Irish are. The British treated them far worse than we treated the Indians. You live in Germany correct and you are saying we are a bad nation for killing the natives even though the majority were killed by disease brought by Europeans like Spain England and France. You call us a bad nation with a bloody history and you live in GERMANY! aahahhahah this is just to damn good. Do they not teach you that your country killed 11 million people and that 90% of the population had full support of Hitler? Americas past is much much cleaner than any country in Europeâs is. @JimLeCreep âbombing didnât work in ww2â lol are you serious? bombing was arguably the most important thing for the war it destroys infrastructure, kills soldiers, destroys factoryâs and yes as sad as it is killed civilians so they country could not produce enough resources during war time.
this shows how fucking disrespectful and damn right wrong you are .
i suggest you do some serious reading , you may have lost alot more men than us in the pacific but we were there in every sense .
War with Japan officially broke out when the Japanese attacked the US fleet at Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941. Within 7 hours Japanese forces attacked again, this time in Malaya, part of the British Empire, taking Empire forces totally by surprise. In a 9 week campaign Japanese forces fought their way through Malaya.
By early February they were ready to attack the vital British naval base at Singapore. Although the defenders outnumbered the Japanese attackers they had few aircraft and their troops were inexperienced. Singapore fell on February 15th 1942 and around 130 000 British, Australian and Indian troops became Japanese prisoners of war. Around 1 in 3 of the captives died.
From here the next focus of the fighting was Burma.
The Japanese were keen to try and cut the Burma Road. This was the supply line from India to China which Britain and the USA were using to supply Chinese forces who were still fighting the Japanese.
From January to May 1942 British Empire forces, mostly Indian troops, fought a harsh and costly campaign, gradually retreating to the borders of India in May 1942.
The year 1942 saw an effective stalemate. The British mounted a campaign at Arakan but it was unsuccessful and British commander General Slim was unable to force the Japanese out of Burma. Other campaigns in the war took priority in terms of troops and resources.
Early in 1943 Brigadier Orde Wingate led his Chindits (mostly Indian and Gurkha troops) in attacks behind enemy lines. The Chindits suffered heavy losses but they did show that British forces could match the Japanese in jungle warfare
By late 1943 and early 1944 the tide of the war was beginning to turn. Slims forces began to get the troops and equipment they needed, especially aircraft. Early in 1944 there was a second Chindit expedition. However, the main clash of the year came in March-April as Japanese and mainly Indian forces fought for control of Kohima and Imphal. After much hard fighting the Japanese suffered decisive defeats, with around 55 000 casualties.
From this point on, the campaign became a steady drive to push the Japanese out of Burma. They fought ferociously, but by March 1945 the Allies recaptured Mandalay. They reached Rangoon in May 1945. Fighting continued in the area until July-August 1945. It was the longest single campaign fought by British Empire troops. Around 120 000 Africans, 2.5 million Indians and many thousands of British, Australian and New Zealand troops took part,
can we please frame this statement someone ? please !
im still fucking jaw dropped at that statement i didnt think you people were real
yea that god awful disease called the united states of america
And that right there should show you how little Europe knows about America. He is the worst president we have ever had in the white house but i assume the only American news you get is CNN so that would explain why you like him.
@TheDivineInfidel By 1945 Japan had diverted most of their forces to protect the home islands from the Russians and Americans guerrillas in china and Korea did way more to fight the japs then the British did.
If you have Saxon blood or Norman blood you are not a true inhabitant of the British isles. Much like you constantly love to tell American that they arenât native. The Saxons came over from Germany and the Normans came from France of course. The Scottish and Irish were there since roman times. We treat the natives here far better than you treated the Irish and Scottish mainly the Irish. The disease that mainly wiped out the natives as small pox and other kinds that the Europeans had immunity to. The majority of Indians were not killed in the Indian wars but by sicknesses your ancestors brought over. I donât see you giving the Scots and Irish free collage and money every month like we do. Iâm not sure why you are talking about dinosaurs they were some 65 million years before humans. Native Americans didnât actually own the land according to them and they constantly took it from each other. When we started pushing out west most of the tribes had only been in that territory for less than 100 years.
It is now official that you have no clue about history and clearly not aware of military analysis of past conflicts and wars.
Bombing runs in WW2 against factories were successful, but by far not effective. The reports of the US and British bomber command concluded the ineffectiveness of large air raids. Sure, they did stagger the war industry, they had to drop a massive amount of bombs to achieve one direct hit that actually made a difference. Same in the Arclight missions in 'Nam. They were supposed to stop the supply route (Ho Chi Minh Trail) but did not succeed at all, because the psychological effect was zero and the amounts of equippment destroyed were mere propaganda.
In Germany, bombing civilians in Dresden, Hamburg, Berlin did not make Hitler stop his war, he did not care.
The training the GIs received before their Tour in Vietnam was more of a crash course. Shooting skills of the WW2 veterans were excellent and on long distance, with the new, young recruits often from draft service, the marksmanship training was not deemed important. Sure some could shoot pretty good, most were just average. Compared to WW2, the amount of rounds required for one enemy KIA was extreme. It was spray and pray, ammo was plentiful and automatic weapons the new thing. I donât doubt your skill in hitting targets at 75m. The training was shortened and marksmanship not important at this stage (quantity over quality). Especially in a dense jungle crawling with bugs, snakes and Charlie harrassing the GIs day and night, knowing his turf like his backyard. Who supported them is irrelevant. The strategy was the same used in Korea and WW2. It did not work out, time had changed and there were no longer clear frontlines or regular opponents facing the GIs. They were better trained, vetted soldiers who already fought the French a few years ago. The better technology of the US can be seen in the higher K/D ratio, but numbers do not win wars.
The training and supply from the USA to help against the Soviet invasion in Afghanistan lead to a power vaccum the Taliban very well knew to use. If the US did not cut the support the moment Soviets retreated, the betrayed allies would have had the opportunity to take control of the country. Their numbers were too low to do it on their own, so the Taliban took over resulting in another conflict, now with the US vs the former ally assimilated by the Taliban.
But you are the expert on everything. 90% support for Hitler? You probably also believe every North Korean actually cheers for Dear Leader, too. You are naive.
I am naive. It seems all you Europeans think north Korea is just sun shine and rainbows:) The vast majority of Germany had unwavering support for Hitler and the Nazi party. He pulled the economy out of the dumps and used the already present anti Semitic feeling in Europe to get away with killing they Jews. Many Germans had no qualms about turning in and watching their country men be taking away to concentration camps. Again you guys have some idea of north Korea like its a happy place and all the bad things said about it is propaganda. You should watch the documentary where a doctor goes into the north to heal cataracts( bad vision) As soon as their site is restored they run up to the picture of Kim jong Il and start kissing the picture thanking him for restoring their site without once thanking the doctor. They are brain washed from birth to think their only purpose in life is to serve the glorious leader. So yes the overwhelming majority of Germany supported Hitler and the Nazi party just as the vast majority of north Koreans support the Kim family.
The United States government didnât kill that many native Americans they didnât have to disease brought by Europeans did the trick. The United States did not enslave the native people for centuryâs after taking their land. My grandfather was 1 quarter native and he got into collage free for that. In addition they get a nice check from the government each month that is payed for by tax paying citizens. We try to make up for the trouble we caused them. The U.K doesnât give out Irish or Scottish scholarships or send them a check each month payed for by citizens. Again the only reason im bringing this ups is because @JimLeCreep was hating on America over the Indians.
George mentioned above that north Koreans were lovely people as if he actually knew them. In 1941 95% of Germans showed unwavering support for Adolf Hitler. Its possible to brainwashed as an adult too.Hitler was Fuhrer in 1931 many people grew up under Hitlers rule hence the Hitler youth. They were so desperate after ww1 that when Hitler made their lives so much better they could turn a blind eye to the things he did. He also turned many young people in radicals much like Obama and the left in America is doing today and it scares the crap out of me. Terrorists like Ward Church Hill and Bill airs are collage professors and are heavily influencing the youth. Some facts about both these upstanding citizens. Bill airs bombed many government buildings and murdered a judge and wounded many people during the 60s. He is a good friend of Barack Obama and now teaches collage. The man should be locked up for life be he isnât. Ward Churchill was teaching his students that people in the twin towers were on the level of Nazis and deserved to die luckily he was fired. Just recently a collage graduating class wanted a man brought out of prison who murdered a few people so he could speak at their graduation. Studies have shown that the German public knew damn well that people were be killed and decided to sit back and watch. That being said there were Germans opposed to Hitler like the men who attempted to kill and stage a military coup.
You must be hundreds of years old. My late grandpa survived too world wars, he was definitely not a Nazi. He did what he was told as a soldier in WW2 (only a boy in WW1) and only later the soldier actually saw what Hitler did. There was no media coverage of every atrocity, just like the media in the US does not show the truth. They aired propaganda and how successful the war was going.
But you clearly know everything first hand and obviously believe the BS you type. You also happen to know 95% of the Germans from 1941, as well as every North Korean.
Hitler did use the poor economy for gaining his power, this was in the 1930s, after some time the population very well knew which evil they initially supported but was too late to stop the military war machine in full swing.
But since you know more Germans that fought WW2 than we Germans do, please tell us the story of every German was a Nazi back then and âdecided to sit back and watchâ. You are pathetic, really. You are the small percentage of Americans that give the USA a bad reputation for being ignorant. I know many Americans who are actually smart and do not bend historyâŠand are Republicans. But hey, just continue and believe your own version of history.
I am done now. There is no use in discussing this topic anylonger with you. There were really good topics and discussions with some of the folks participating in this thread, at times off the records. Thanks for that.
Time to move on.
university is free for the scottish and they get a student loan that covers pretty much all expenses , the english however have to pay ÂŁ9000 something a year for uni but also get a student loan that pays for that and expenses and you pay it off over 25 years and you can pay back as little as you want so like ÂŁ1 a month and once they get to 25 year they wipe what ever debt you have left .
the irish , scottish and welsh are treated like the english there are no special rules however they can change minor laws such as university fees etc in their own parliaments and then just big important stuff is governed down in Westminster , much like states in the USA
also just because an invading force takes power it does not change the blood of the people living there . my family has been in England for many many years and i have a very traditional and typical English last name , but my family were only mear peasants
they are you will see that if you watch documentaries on north korea . they are very brain washed people but from what ive seen in the documentaries are also very welcoming .
you cannot judge the population of a nation based on its leader thats stupid
if hitler had not started WW2 he would of went down as one of the greatest leaders of germany , he rebuilt germany from rubble into a strong world power in 6 years then got it destroyed in another 6 haha .
he was a great leader but he was also a very very dark evil man one that deserved everything he got
And the history repeats itself. In 1938 the Czechoslovaks were armed to teeth and ready to fight Germans off. However the French and Brits decided it will be better to appease Hitler and pushed Czechoslovaks to stand down, leaving them alone against Germany, Poland and Hungary who altogether invaded the country.
Now look at Ukraine and you can see the same story basically all over again, just that Ukraineâs army is no match for Russian, and in case of escalation Russians will not need Ukraineâs equipment in their march further West the way Germany used Czech weapons against Poland and France.
There are plenty, the one where the game is taking place being one of them.
No he didnât. He was cooking the books the same as the Greeks were recently. Had he not started a war, Germany would defaulted and be probably in way worse condition than it was after WW1. Hitler could have been easily stopped when re-militarising Rhineland or when demanding Czechoslovakia. If Poland wasnât attacked by Russians and if French opened second war line immediately after the attack on Poland, Hitler would probably also not succeed. Only after all those gains he got the machine working properly, sucking the conquered territories - starting with gold that was in the Czechoslovak (Polish, FrenchâŠ) national bank and ending with the gold out of Jewish teeth.
Nazis had much higher voter approval among German population of conquered territories. It was about double the number in Austria and actually around 90% among the German population of Czechoslovakia (despite them having actually way fewer rights and freedoms as Germans in Nazi Germany than as Germans in democratic Czechoslovakia).
He was well aware that he is going to serve in an army that leads a war of aggression. He was very well aware that non-Arian people were labelled as sub-human and that the propaganda had a very clear plan of âgetting rid of sub-humansâ. In every single country there was guerilla warfare against the Nazis, but in Germany. Spare us the bullshit about honest Germans soldiers doing their duty and not bearing responsibility for the atrocities. My great-grandfather also served and died for the Nazi cause, and even though I understand that for people in Zaolzie it was either take up the Volskliste and serve or go to concentration camp, I donât make excuses for his choice. Had he chosen to join up resistance like the other part of family, he would have been dead all the same (as they were), but honourably.
depends on his unit on how much he was exposed to the Wehrmacht. troops for the most part were not involved in executing civilians , it happened of course but it was 80% of the time carried out by SS death head units .
your great grandfather would have had very little choice yes you could refuse to join and go with the resistance but then would have to live in fear of what could happen to your family etc so its very easy for you to say "just join the resistance " from your chair many many years later.
the german troops were young lads just following orders and doing what they believed was right ,over here in the UK on remembrance day all the WW2 vets come together and tell stories and just remember and pay respects to the fallen . i go to my local parade every year as well and there is an old german guy in his mid 90âs now so he hasnt got long left and he fought on the german side all through WW2 and yet he sits every year with the british vets and they all remember together all the friends and family they lost and never have i ever ever seen one of the old boys take to him in a hostile way he is embraced as one of them . this is more common than you think another example of this is Heinrich Severloh who was a machine gunner on Omaha beach he estimates he killed over 1000 US troops that day from his bunker how true that is i couldnt say but he talks in great detail about how he would wait for the ramp to drop before unloading into the landing craft but yet every year up tp his death in 2006 he went to the D-day remembrance event in Normandy where he stood side by side with american and british war vets to remember and he became good friends with a US war vet who was wounded on the beach at they had worked out from the position he was wounded and the position of heinrichs machine gun that heinrich was the one that shot him yet they were now stood side by side as friends , so it goes to show that at the end of it all both sides were young lads fighting for their life the only difference was the uniform
Why donât the Irish get nice benefits England enslaved over a million of them and held them under a oppressive rule for over 700 years.
I was mainly using the Scottish and Irish as an example because @JimLeCreep was sarcastic when I listed the Indian wars as a military success.
Saying that someone serving in Wehrmacht was not complicit in the Nazi crimes is imbecility. If you were in 1930s Germany, you knew what the regime was about. There was no escaping it. You may not have been aware of the atrocities directly, but the regime was quite straightforward about its goals and ways to reach them. There is no denying it.
