I used my alpha on my brother’s account a long time ago, because I thought that the separate alpha and beta sections on the website would mean they were distinct. Without warning they were merged, and now I’m wondering if the same will occur for the final release?

I think that it will be merged because we are talking about a launcher that just upgrades the game every time it’s necessary. I dont think they will send you another Key as you already have a part of the game downloaded. Also this:
If you had an Alpha key, it indeed transformed into a Beta key after the release of Beta. But for the final game everyone will get a new key. No matter if he was a Launcher user before or if he already had a Steam key.
