Are conciliation crosses still a thing?

In Mexico, specially around rural, zones it is very common to still find these crosses which at least, partially matches the usage and context for which they are built and placed in the games. Though nowadays they are reserved for tragic events/traffic accidents and it seems the atonement message or purpose behind them was lost (if they ever had it here to begin with)

so I’m guessing they might still be a thing around Latin America and other countries with strong Catholic roots prob. Ireland or Poland

Greetings from Sonora, Mexico.

I can’t be sure of the religion to which they’re adherent, but there seem to be a great many such crosses here in Pennsylvania, USA. I assume they are stationed at the sites of road deaths. Way too many of them here…
