Armor and Weapon Damage

So, i was thinking about armor damage, and i am a bit concerned about it. So, since the armor and weapons have a “health rate” does this mean that when reach “0” it will be not usable anymore like in the elder scrolls Oblivion? Because that was a bad feature in that game so bethesda removed it to skyrim. I wouldnt mind if the armor got damaged and the swords got “blind” xD with some visuals showing that they were deteriorating, but let us at least wear them as long as we want!

To be honest - having a system where your armor can break and you can’t wear it is actually realistic. Most amor (i.e. armor plates) were generally attached using leather straps. If those straps were damaged or cut during combat, then that piece of armor would not be wearable until you got it fixed. As far as the plates themselves, I was watching a 5v5 in the IMCF, and a guy’s pauldron got cracked in two, and he wasn’t able to use it. I agree with you that it would be CRAZY annoying, they are shooting for realism, and it would be realistic to have armor damaged to a point where you couldn’t wear it.

As far as weapons, i’m not a blacksmith, so i don’t know how easy - or hard - a sword or blade can be to repair. What i think might work is a system similar to a game - Test Drive Eve of Destruction. It was a demolition derby game, where you were a driver and you could get different cars etc. if the cars got damaged, there was a chance that some of the damage would be irreparable. I think a similar system for the weapons might work - with the more permanent damage there is, the more likely that the next time it receives heavy damage it breaks.

Actually, the part you suggested about the sword break during a battle it would be just terrific!

it happend to a friend of mine, during a spar. and i did it my self once but that wasn’t steel xD

hahaha… yeah, me and my friends use kendo shinai’s to do a less-technique-based sword-fighting. during one of the fights he tried to slash down on the back of my shoulder, but i dodged back, putting my head in the way. CRACK. His shinai split. my head didn’t :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:. I WAS dizzy for the next half hour or so, though…

Like I summarized before here, damaging and rusting equipment would be quite nice, but HP for equipment is probably the worst that can happen to the game’s inventory system - and realism.

maybe not a direct HP system but a set of variables? make it so there is a random chance of breakage, which increases the longer you use the weapon/armor and the more heavily its been used

Armor and weapon durability was already confirmed by Warhorse.

In the video you can see he is wearing a shoulder armor with has no states (damaged, no protection), but it looks cool…
He has looted it before from a cuman.

Cracks anywhere along the length of the blade are fatal. Anything above that crack is basically lost, because it’s going to fail eventually. Can probably be cut down, depending on the blade. The blade can be ground to fix the geometry for basically anything else - chips, rolled edges, wrinkles, etc. - if it’s a monosteel blade. Pattern welded blades… well… no. If the jacket steel is worn down or broken through, and core steel is exposed, you’re probably in trouble there. So in that case, a broken tip or a chip that exposes core steel would both also be fatal.

But yeah, there are a lot of things that can be fixed with some very careful grinding. Bent blades can be fixed in vices, etc. etc.

thats exactly what i wanted to see! the armor and weapons could seem damaged, but we could wear them anyway! thnks!
