Armor Rant ;)

15th Century was particularly rich in body armor development and it offered very wide variety of armor styles, as i am sure most of you already know. Why is it not perceived ingame?
Great helms, early Armets, Barbutes, Sallets, Bascinets, all of which has many versions, and there is only a few of them in game, offering not much variety at all.
Hell, even some helmets that are painted castle walls, are not implemented in game, such as Great Helms shown here, that would’ve been still pretty common at that time period with lower ranks.

Question is, could it be that hard to add few more variants of, Great Bascinet for example, or Barbute?
Maybe the mods will add more to it, i certanly hope so.

Yes! Completely agree!

The 20th century had the internet. Why is there no internet in WWI games?

Around, yes. By 1403 though, not in common use. Obsolete.

In 1403? No.

There are several.

Sure, there could always be more, but there’s a reasonable amount of variation.

those helmets were no longer used during the time period. also, great bascinet and barbute were ugly. they should probably create a visor slot for the bascinet, and then create a couple variants of the bascinet, like a onion bascinet, a regular one, a rounder one , a more pointed one.

The whole point is, it’s a pity not to include more diversity to the armor section.
I’ve seen more helmets in my local museum. (Imperial Armoury in Vienna)

the point is money and time
I’m confident that we will see more but the priorities were different during the development

Conspicuous consumption (even back then) is typically associated with (faux) honor and prestige.

Currently, in game, a good number of conspicuous/specialized goods are made available via treasure quests. Think WH went too far with this cliche. Instead would’ve preferred that these goods be acquired by the other cliches: boss kills and milestone achievements.

In the upcoming DLC (eg combat arena), would be nice if some of these more stylized, rare goods were made available as you progress. Not necessarily talking about mace with better stats than ceremonial mace or cuirass with better stats than Nuremberg. Just different styles (skins). Then if Henry wants to dress up in anachronistic, idiosyncratic or stylistically rare armor and weapons, he can

I’m just glad they seem to be really interested in historical authenticity… I’m fine with the armor right now, purely because the system designed for it is perfect… The multiple layers, accurate positioning, style etc.

I think we should let them focus on ironing out the performance issues and bugs first, then we can start the requests for more armor :stuck_out_tongue:

edit… maybe I short read the replies before posting the same as they said…

if you listen to and can believe metatron (?)… yeah, not as much as you might think. armor? close but a miss. clothes? off considerably in details

to me, some artistic license is warranted.

Metatron think he know way more than he actually do… and as a result make way to many definitive claims that he very likely would not be able to back up if someone pressured him for evidence/sources for his claims.

Now my area of knowledge is more about denmark, since that is logically the area a danish university focus on when educating medieval archaeologists…
But the game is IMHO by fare the best attempt at a historical medieval game that I know of… Is it perect? no, but I think they done a very good job.

One of my main issue with the military equipment, is that they I my opinion have looked a bit too much on the “battel of nations” sport… and that have effected some items in the game, especially shields. They is not held in the way that I think is the most commonly depicted on frescoes or how most straps are on the shields we do have from the late medieval period.

(notice how Iam not actually claiming that its wrong, just that I believe/think it don’t entirely fit the evidence we do have… I do that because I have not actually done a proper study of frescoes looking for shields or visited a lot of museums across Europe to do a study of shields. So obviously I can not state as a fact that it is wrong and then be able to prove it…)

And I learned stuff about bohemian way of doing things from the game.
the ordinary building in the town in the game are rather different than what was build in denmark at the same time… and that is correct. (someone posted an article on the forum about it way, way back)

That’s why I said ‘can believe’ … my larger point is WH should try to respect salient (important) details of the time (it does); beyond that, in the ball park should be good enough

A purist approach to gaming to me is silly

I just want my bandit plate jack back :disappointed:

Leather and hunter gloves should count as light armor!

Barbutes and Sallets are first recorded in 1407 so they wouldn’t be a stretch.

Yeah, i agree about ironing the more important stuff first, i mean, it’s not that hard to add more items, even the modding community can do that, if they have the tools that is, so yeah, excuse my impatience.

Or furs so I can rp as a poacher😆
