I don’t know if it’s a bug, but basically everytime i fight a guy and receive some hits my armor is completely damaged. what is a way to prevent this (beside parrying every hit, which i can’t do because i am not that good yet) considering that repairs are so expensive?
Train craftsmanship so you can repair it yourself 
repairs are otherwise very expensive

It also happens if you have no chain and plate layer yet at the start of the game.
Like when you fight only in a light Gambeson or shirt from the start of the game it gets to 0 very quickly. Once you have a more complete armor its way more durable.
Makes sense if you just have some passed shirt that it gets ruined from a few sword strikes.
edit: its called Maintenance and first level you get easily by repairing weapons at a grindstone. After that you can use repair kits (cobbler for shoes, tailor for cloth, Armorers for armour) to repair your stuff and level it up
thankyou both for the help! so i tried use an armorer kit on my equipment but it says it is too damaged to be repaired with that. does it mean my only choice is paying to get it repaired? also part of my equipment went missing: bug, or did it get destroyed because i didn’t repair it for too long? (funny thing is that it disappeared not after a fight but after just walking around)
When your maintenance skill is low you can only repair small damages. Totally ruined items you need the trader repair or put it in the trunk and repair it later when your skill is higher.
Important to level it is to repair smaller danmages but more often so durability does not drop below where you can repair it.
