Armour typology

Those familiar with historical reenactment or have bought a european sword or even make them are propably familiar with the oakeshott typology. I was wondering if there is actually such a type of reference work for armour of the same timespan or any other good reference material?

As far as I know, there is not a widely-used typology for armor the way Oakeshott is for swords. A few people have made attempts at this, but their use is normally relegated to a small group. Matthias Goll’s thesis on armour production between 1350 and 1500 is one of the more notable ones, however, and includes a great many photos of extant pieces…some that have never been photographed previously.

A word of caution: mixed in with the extant pieces are several Victorian-era fakes and (bad) reproductions, and Goll does not always clearly indicate this.
