Arrow traces

After not reading about the game in a while i newly watched a video, where i saw the current bow mechanic.
And what i saw shocked me: There were arrow traces. Can anyone tell me why they are there and if i can turn them off?
The game claims to be very realistic, but why the hell don’t arrows just fly as they are, as seen in Skyrim and Mount & Blade? After all the game can be set kind of between them.

For me this fully destroys the bow shooting mechanism, because it is immensely unimmersive and unrealistic, it is rather a WoW thing or something you would expect from Final Fantasy - but not from a so immersive and precise game as Kingdom Come.

Hi,

arrow tracers are there so you can adjust your aim after shooting. Since thre is no aiming reticule for bow, you really shoot “by eye”. But since we have only 75 FOV and most players will be playing at FHD resolution, you couldn´t really see where the arrow was going (and because of that you sometimes didn´t even knew whether you hit or miss, and how you missed).

So as mechanics go - its actually more realistic, as in RL you can atleast partially follow the arrow with your eyes. This ensures you can do the same in game.

Believe me, shooting is hard is it is now already :smiley:

I understand the reason for including this particle effect. However, there are people who likes it hard. Removing it entirely would be wrong because all the non-hardcore players would be pissed. It should be a difficulty option, which it is. turn it off, then you have it hardcore and more immersive, turn it on, then you will have your normal shooting indicator if you want to to have it “easier”.

In the end the execution of this “feature” is a wrapped if sentence and the management of the option.

For me it is a gamebreaker, for you can follow the arrow in other games like skyrim very well without any stupid traces. I want to play a lot with bows, and with that it takes every fun from me. Even to the extend of regretting that i backed this 5 years ago.
I’d rather want to see an aim point instead of this stupid “anime”-like traces. I liked it like it was in the beginning, and this game claims to be skill based, so why not train shooting to learn how it flies - or what are those training targets there for? Or make it similar to Mount & Blade and improve it upon leveling? Everything would be better than that…

But of course it would be ok if they made it an option, instead of a fixed fact. Shouldn’t be such a big deal, since even in Warhammer: Total War it is an option to turn on or off.

I don’t understand the fuss, it’s just visual indicator, it doesn’t really make anything easier, just less frustrating. Aim point on the other hand would make it much easier, so I probably don’t understand such logic… Sadly I don’t think it can be turned off right now.

It’s not just about the difficulty (however you really can make it as difficult as you want even with an aimpoint), but about the look and feel of shooting. It turns immersion and feeling by 180° to some kind of anime-arcade-rpg to me instead of adapting to the overall claim of the game and the feeling of playing KCD as immersive medieval “sim-rpg”.
For me i enjoy bow shooting because of shooting an arrow in the air and watching how it hits the target, and not because it is a gun-like thing to shoot at someone. And that really makes the difference and the overall feeling of playing a stealthy, ranged combat character.

well now you can see it better, win-win! :smiley: No? Oh well… Maybe it will be in settings who knows. Wouldn´t really count on it tho :frowning:

you can save this comment. Better try to understand my point, man.

I do, and you have my sympathy, but I just don´t think you wishes will come true :confused: Lets just hope it will be easily editable.

Before November there were some times, where I thought, I would not see scabbards before the release but then videos appeared showing them on 90% of the NPCs, which was awesome. Compared to this task the implementation of a simple option is not the world. So I would not give my hopes up :slight_smile:

You might have a point actually :slight_smile: Even though I think this is bit different case (scabbards were wanted, but hard to implement - tracers are there on purpose from design perspective, so they might not want to add such feature), but there is a chance.

@warhorse: I have to ask:

Does TCR/TRCs require to have those visible flightpath indicators?

WHAT?!

What means “TCR”?
And what does FOV have to do with arrow tracers?

TCR = Technical Certification Requirements
TRC = Technical Requirement Checklist

These are the criteria, which a game needs to fulfill in order to be released on XBox,PS4

As these lists are under NDA. I just wanted a clarification, that any of those requirements are not the reason for the inclusion of arrow traces.

No, these are not the reasons for the inclusion of the arrow traces.
I would say, you don´t have to worry about the arrow traces, I can´t say too much right now, but sooner or later it will be no concern anymore. I just can´t talk about it yet. If everything is going as planned, you will get what you want.

They are there because this is a game and as much as they try, its just not exactly standing there there with a real bow. So they give you a little help to make it easier for you to adjust your aim. It is kind of like MS Flightsim. I always have to glance out the side window to get some kind kind of reference so I can tell how high I am above the runway and what my pitch is like. If I were in a real plane, I would be able to tell just by looking out the windshield but in the simulator, you need extra help. Same thing here. Hopefully, there will be some way to turn off the arrow traces if you don’t want . Personally, I want them.

I can understand your feelings. In college I learned to fence and later on I took up the japanese swords and learned to fight with medieval weapons as well. I always enjoy watching movies to see if the actors actually have some idea of how to wield the weapons they are using of if they are wacking one another and trying to hit the othere guys sword instead of actually attacking the other guy. So I can appreciate where you are coming from. However, personally, I appreciate the fact that they slow it down a little. If I weere actallly swinging a sword or axe, fine. But, using a mouse and keyboard or a gamepad makes it much harder for me fight. If things went at a realistic pace, I’d be dead every time. I just can’t swing a sword with a mouse that well or that fast. Hopefully there will be some adjustment or combat setting that will let you tune combat to your taste. But personally, I am fine with the slower pace.

The thing with combat is: They indeed have to find a compromise, because every step towards a more historically realistic combat would have to take away a bit of control and freedom for the player. Simply because of the mouse and keaboard problem. Thats why the combat is no game breaker to me at all - i even like it much more than the one in Skyrim.
The thing with archery is: They don’t have to. There are at least two great games with great archery, take a bit out of both and you don’t need any tracers at all, having an even more realistic and very immersive playing style with choosable difficulty.

Hello, now that the game is almost out on PC, can you clarify this comment?

Thanks
