  • The AI system is called Inception
  • Sheep will have special droving AI algorithm, the player will be able to shepherd them.
  • Ambient AI
    • If the player is poorly dressed, people will refuse to talk to him
    • If the player wears heavy armor, people will be afraid of him
    • If the player breaks into NPC’s house at night and demands a quest, the NPC will throw him out and/or call the guard
    • If the player pulls out a weapon in town, people will start to panic
      • there may or may not be exceptions to this, taking out an ax at a lumber mill may not be considered an act of aggression.
  • If the player kills the innkeeper, people will leave the inn after waiting for their beer long enough. If they can see the innkeeper’s body, they will leave even faster.
  • If you get caught by an NPC during a robbery, the NPC will proceed to smash your face, or, if you look threatening, run away and call the guards.
  • If it rains, NPC will go hide indoors.
  • The AI will seem as if it is running in the background, for the NPC’s that are not currently visible.
  • NPC’s will get distracted. A distracted NPC is less observant and it is easier to steal from.

thanks, some good info on ambient ai. no more skyrim “hit you over the head” ai rules.

Sounds almost too good to be true tbh…

Kudos for their vision but I don’t believe this before I see it. Too many games before have failed in clever AI.

This can be interesting.Realistic AI is a tough nut to crack.

• “Can I see your sword?”
• “Yeah, sure!”
• “Aaaaaaaahh! (panic)”

I think it would be more realistic, if they just start to stare at you and begin to panic when you move around with your sword.

Great that they’re working with multiple outside sources (especially with a small team), and that they are thinking of small details at this early stage of development. To a degree though, I agree with @LordCrash…I’m gonna have to see this in action to believe it will work reliably. Crowd AI reactions have been done successfully for years, but they can be buggy and easily exploitable (just look at Hitman: Blood Money and Absolution for examples). Random vs. scripted actions is a fine tightrope…

I would like to see threat levels decrease for non hostile moves like drawing your sword or swinging it around. The persons in a circel of 2 m would get the hell out of there but at a saver distance, 5 m ppl will walk backwards away from the threat. 10 m ppl just look at you. But if you actually go and hit a NPC or kill the NPC the reaction would change to fight or flee, depending on your threat level as mentioned. Pretty much a better version of what assassins creed has.

AI called Inception?

Will some npc respawn? I hope not
