Beginner Tutorials = Less wandering aimlessly

KCD
and a tip for new players…

I enjoy freedom of choice but I’ve spent my first 3-4 hours playing the game wandering aimlessly around the first 3 towns.

In Rattay I spent an hour trying to find a spade when it was simply at the mill… why didn’t Miller tell me that while briefing me on the mission? Then I finally get to the executioner and break all my lock picks and when I beat up the executioner he doesn’t give me the ring… why wouldn’t Henry try to get that out of him since he has NO money and lock picks currently are sparse.

I wont quit the game because I know I’ll love it when I get used to it but this issue will frustrate many others and may cause them to quit. Please give tutorials in the beginning of early missions while we’re learning the mechanics and adjust the freedom of choice to allow it to be fully utilized.

Side note:
I didn’t realize I was poisoning myself with bad food and that the skull symbol was telling me that… alert players in early stages of the game what new pop ups are and how to prevent them in the future.

Henry knows what’s hurting him but I don’t! Tutorials provide realism because he is learning what hurts him.

1st point the miller does tell you he has a spade for you nearby as I recall :zipper_mouth_face: - as freedom of choice I chose not to be a bad person :innocent:

You got a tutorial about food early in the game (with a popup link) where all needed informations were described nicely.

So yes, I missed Miller telling me about the spade but that’s because I was focused on conversation and, like with other RPG’s, looking for direction markers. Following realism, i waited till nighttime to try to steal the ring and he kept catching me because he apparently patrols his property at night time… I ended up fighting him once I was out of lock picks, assuming that I could rob him of his key or force him to give me the ring, but when he surrendered he didn’t give me anything useful. Trying to follow the game “too” realistically has also made the game more difficult because what’s realistic is up to the perspective of the player. All of this took nearly an hour and a half of gaming and I had to turn the game off bc of real life reasons without accomplishing ANYTHING.

There are other ways around this

Like how? Haha killing him? I’m trying to keep my character in good standing.

Im sure the ring your after is in a chest you have to lockpick ?
I havent got round to that yet, still trying to find lockpicks from some where.

Yes but I can hardly afford any right now which is what makes it so tough.

Go do other side quests or the main story or explore. I have 12k on me and nearly 30k warmed all together. You’re not forced to do his quest of criminality

Hmm maybe that is my problem. But I keep getting beaten up by the thugs hired by the alchemist in Rattay

True… You can just go and pay that debt later with gold if you want to play “good” guy. Also don’t forget to visit that guy who healed you jn the city and pay debt too

you can

  1. buy the ring off him
  2. steal the key to the chest (there are two chests in his house)
  3. lock pick the chest
  4. you can sneak up on him and incapacitate him and take his nice sword and stuff
  5. Kill him and loot him

simple quest with 5 pretty good options. ( i haven’t even played the game yet, just watched a few videos)

I just talked to the miller to learn more about lockpicking since I play in Xbox and lockpicking was very confusing in the first place.

Then he trained it with me behind the house and I realized how simple the mechanics are. So I trained for 20min at the chest till „Lockpick Lvl 6“ (about 4 successfull openings per Level).

Now I sneaked for the ring at Night. As the miller told me, there are dogs. After a dog alerted the guy, I waited in the hut opposit to the house entry. When the way was clear, I walked into the left room of the house, cracked the box, stole the ring and escaped asap.

Went successful the 2nd try since he kept me in the First. After all, easy mission and a good taste for what is coming in the Game.

Other random issue… how do you look around well and jump while sprinting? On horseback I couldn’t turn around at all either without stopping my horse

They are not the best controls but you just have to make do and you’ll learn to use all your fingers
