So I’ve found everything but the cross. I can’t buy it from Andrew, and I can’t lockpick the chest where some walkthroughs say it is. One of the charcoal burners said follow the procession, and the other one talked about buried bodies near Talmberg. Do I have to find the procession/dig up graves? Or do I have to ask Fritz and Matthew to help me? Also, although my stats are much higher, I can’t convince Andrew to tell me who tried selling the cross to him.
I bought it from Andrew.
I had to try several different times, but that’s where I got it.
andrew have it in his tavern is a very hard chest wher you meet and showcase the kuman armor ther it is in
How exactly did you buy it from him? Amongst his normal goods? Did you turn anything in to him before?
So there is no other way but lockpicking?
I got the stolen goods from the charcoal-burners first.
Then I went and talked to Andrew and bought the cross. (It showed the transaction that I had bought the cross, but the cross didn’t appear in my inventory)
I went and gave Adam his property back and he asked about the cross. It still wasn’t in my inventory (even though I had bought it)
I went back to Adam about a day later and talked to him. I now had the option to give him the cross back, so I did.
That sounds like a good way to proceed, ty! I’ll trying seeing Adam first, maybe that helps. Did Andrew also tell you that he hadn’t bought the cross?
Yes he said he didn’t buy the cross. I just kept going back to him and trying all the different dialog options. I think when I told him that the charcoal-burners must have spent the money, it worked.
Note: I saw Andrew, before I went to Adam to return the property.
I’m in the same situation. I tried buying the cross from Andrew but it didn’t show in my inventory and I didn’t have the option to return it to Adam, so I reloaded and now I’m wondering how to proceed. Since I don’t have lockpicking high enough I couldn’t try stealing the cross.
There is also another sack of loot you can get by pickpocketing the charcoal burner, did you do that as well?
The quest is marked as finished even without the cross so it’s not that big of a deal but it would be nice to finish it as intended.
Okay, tried it as suggested, but the moment I talk to either of them, the quest is finished even without the cross.
After you gave Adam back his property, did you wait for a day and go back to him again?
That’s what I did and it let me give him the cross, even though it did not show in my inventory.

The quest was marked as finished for me too, when I gave Adam back the property. I then went back to him a day later and it let me give him the cross.
The problem is that once I give Adam his stuff back, the quest ends and I can’t talk to Andrew about the cross anymore.
I did the same thing as you. I read about the second sack of loot in a steam thread about this quest so I was wondering if it’s relevant. I think I’ll try the wait a day approach, thanks for the tip.

I think it’s imperative for obtaining the cross to be able to convince Andrew telling you about Tonchek.
So, I tried buying the cross from Andrew, didn’t get it in my inventory, went to Adam, gave him the loot found under the fallen tree, no option to give the cross back. Half a game day later I manually saved and reloaded and I got a quest notification “Return Adam’s cross” or something like that and the cross appeared in my inventory and I can give it back to Adam. Don’t know if it’s the waiting, manually saving and loading or both but it worked for me.

Glad it worked. That quest was driving me crazy… lol
