Burning Environment?

Though the Game uses the CryEngine I ask myself if it will be possible to set the environment on fire like in Far Cry and how this might be realized i.e. using a burning arrow to set a tree or a stable on fire.

The Option to set things on fire might be also pretty great to use in huge battles to cut troops of their allies.

That would be cool. I spent a lot of time burning things in Call of Juarez  (1 (and maybe 2)).

I guess they are going to get this into the game.

far cry 2 was set in a dry desert environment.

Fay Cry 3 played on a caribbean island and dry parts like a stable or a pine wood can burn pretty great I think

this game isn’t set in a caribbean, desert environment or even a mediterrnean one.

So do u think the environment is in-burnable because it is set in a different climatic zone?

Everything can burn, almost everywhere.

fire propagation made sense in those games since the environment allowed full use of it. it’s hardly worth it to include it in this game for the sake of setting some tree on fire or burning down a shack.

I think that setting things are fire may be useful, but it can be balanced. It still makes sense to me. I don’t see anything wrong with it at all.

As far as i know, water can’t burn  Some things can burn in water, but not water itself.

Of course  (lol I didn’t hear about anything burning in water :D)

The videos I saw showed a lot pine woods and I share the opinion that it could be of use in some kind of battles taking place in such areas. Also it could be of good use in fights in villages by setting fire to enemy barracks or guard-towers.

On the other hand I cannot ignore your argument that broad-leaved trees aren’t that flammable

maybe setting something on fire can be used in stealth. e.g. when I want to poison the water source (castle siege) I can distract guards and people by setting something to fire.

So the environment in the Czech Republic is immune to fire?

is that what i said? nope. try again. clue: i clarified my statement a few posts back.

In the stream video, there was a well burnt down part of the stables, so I would think there would be more of the fire…

that’s probably not dynamic. ie it was scripted part of the quest.

which raises the issue, would dynamic fire destruction be really worth it? look at the deformation of the architecture, that’s the level of detail they’ll have to aim for, for everything that can conceivably lit.

That was scripted part of the quest.

If you watch the making-of video for Far Cry 2 they tell you that it took them several months to get that fire propagation method working. It’s just not worth the time for something that has so few uses. There are a lot of ideas being thrown around here and I get that people want to contribute something but you have to ask yourselves “Why?”. Why is it a useful feature and why would the game be at a loss without it? Otherwise it’s just filler.

I think it would be a cool addition! You could set fire to some crops in order to starve your enemies or burn some buildings to create distractions …
Also, on a battlefield, you could use oil and fire to cover your army’s sides … So much cool possibilities would be added just thanks to that !
