Since MS has really relaxed their self publishing polices any thoughts to making the alpha test available on the Xbox one?
In short MS does not require Fee’s for certs, patches, every retail Xbox one will have the ability to become a dev box and it fully support self publishing. Would be great to get to play the Alpha on the Xbox one.
Well considering Microsofts BS politic about indie and new developers. Its not necessary up to Warhorse alone. That and coding for xbox isnt necessary same as for PC. There can be integration issues.
What BS policy
What is BS about Self publishing, free cert process, free patches, every Xbox one can be turned into a dev box? I fail to see how MS could make it any easier for indie devs to publish on the Xbox one.
Warhorse already confirmed Xbox one for the game is a go after speaking with MS so I think the Alpha should be doable.
Yeah you say that, and it sounds nice. But in reallity this is quite different (I dont mean to insult, take it in the nicest way possible). Xbox has the worst indie, new and small publisher policies of any platform. Xbox 360 had indie section, but in reallity it was a garbage-site untill very recently when things like Blood dragon, wolf among us, walking dead etc… Got on the platforms. Untill then it was full of minecraft ripoffs. There was a joke while back, on the launch of xbox one, that you can get on the system. Sure, once you make a bilion dollars (minecraft reference, it was a game presented on the xbox launch as an example of indie games)
Nevertheless Xbox has some bogus policies. The Day one parity, exclusivity (for a certain time, usually in the ammount of months, which is a big fucking deal. And it punishes the devs severely). Remind me, is this policy still active. “Microsoft charges developers for patching theyr games”, or it just ended ? How much it cost to patch an arcade game (40 000$), Not exactly making it easy on devs ey ? But I wouldnt know, I cant even buy xbox one in my country.
Long story short, they are bogus policies. And unless its a COD game I doubt it will get on xbox till very late beta, or the full release.
Here are the current Xbox one policies regarding self publishing. But instead of getting into system wars crap based on pre conceived biases, let’s just deal with facts,

I really hope it is in xbox one (the alpha), because I believe the beta will be on xbox one (confirmend???)
I think sony replied best when asked about their “indie program” by saying “While I can’t really comment on other programs, one distinction I would make is that we don’t have an indie program. PlayStation allows for Self-Publishing, which is open to all licensed developers no matter their size and scope”. MS threw the program together which is great but they have rules included to be a part of the program which have caused a lot of indie developers to speak out against it. Its great for indies to be better supported this generation but im not sure they are at the point where it is easy enough for warhorse to put the alpha on the psn or xbl.
So what does all this console war crap actually have to do with this thread? Sony and Xbox one have self publishing, The game is already confirmed from MS to be coming out on it. I’m simply asking if the Alpha can come out to on the Xbox one as the polices for self publishing obviously allow that sort of this. I swear gamers are so quick to draw side instead of just being gamers.
no. even if ms says yes, there is a delay in pc and console development, so by the time console alpha is ready, beta would likely be out for pc already.
pc version of this game slated for 2015, consoles 2016.
It has nothing to do with console wars, Its just that the way consoles handle games isnt set up for alpha type tests. Its just easier to do it on pc. I swear some gamers are so quick to call things console wars .
They’ve said they’re going to try to aim for a simultaneous release on PC and consoles.
Ya where did this info come from. I’ve seen this before but no link to a developer ever saying it.
Or in other words things that developers have to have acces to create a good game. If they had no acces to dev kid, there wouldnt be any game would be ? They are not trying to force indies away. I’m just saying theyr methods are horrible (day one parity, exclusivity) are the most prominent that comes in mind that are the deal breakers as shown in severall articles like this, this, or this, and this. Take your pick.
And as I aready said, there wont be any alpha, because that would mean xbox would have to have an exclusivity for certain time. Dunno if thats compared to PC, but compared to Playstation surelly. Thats not a good step
I fail to see how any of the discussion here from other people is a “console war.” Just because you don’t get the answer you want, doesn’t mean it’s them trying to flame or cause trouble.
That said, there is a patching fee for developers, and it’s pretty hefty. Additionally, it sounds like you just want the alpha to simply play early, but unfortunately, that is not what an “alpha” is really for, even though it IS one of the perks. The ultimate goal and reason for alpha testing is to have a mass testing of the game, finding bugs, fixing them, and retesting, until eventually a satisfactory product is produced. This means they need to be able to patch the game very often (which isn’t as much the case with a Beta, which has a lot of the quirks of the games already figured out, and just need bugs reported so they can fix them internally). Considering the patching fee, I doubt there will be an alpha for the Bone. I guess it’s possible, but I’m gonna lean on the safe side and say it’s highly improbable.
Uh did you even read anything that was said? every retail Xbox one is a dev kit
The Xbox One that you purchase at retail can double as a developer kit, potentially allowing anyone to create games for the new hardware, Microsoft’s Marc Whitten confirms in a statement. This marks the first time the company’s stance on independently funded game development has been made clear since the console was announced in May 2013.
“Our vision is that every person can be a creator. That every Xbox One can be used for development. That every game and experience can take advantage of all of the features of Xbox One and Xbox LIVE,” Whitten’s statement reads. “This means self-publishing. This means Kinect, the cloud, achievements. This means great discoverability on Xbox LIVE. We’ll have more details on the program and the timeline at gamescom in August.”

Again you haven’t read squat about the self publishing policy on the Xbox one, their is no patch fee for devs, their is no cert fee or submission fee. It’s on their on freaking site. If your not going to believe anything they say and your just going to argue for the sake of it their is not point in even talking about this.

Alpha and Beta will be just for PC.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the consoles miss out on the public alpha simply because the approval process not only for the initial download but for EVERY additional update is not particularly quick when compared to PC which has none of the red tape surrounding it’s releases.
We will do what we can but we cannot guarantee early access on consoles as of now.
Thanks for the official update, should be worth a shot on consoles, I’ve already played a few titanfall Alpha on it as well spark beta is coming out soon along with the titanfall beta and the Elder Scrolls online Beta is coming so their is a precedent of early access for games on the Xbox one.
