Can't open the Talmberg gates

I juat started playing again and on the ps4 running the latest patch ans ran into a problem. I started a new game on the current patch.

In the beginning of the game in Talmberg, I stole the guard clothes and stole a horse and that’s how I escaped Talmberg but now later in my play through during a miller quest, I had to go there again but the gate is closed and I couldn’t get in or talk to the guard behind the gate. I managed to do a bit of climbing and made it inside but all the guard tells me is about a quest from someone named Stephanie. I think that’s the lords wife.

Is there a way I can get the gate open? A friend told me that later in the game Talmberg becomes an important place you go to so am I stuck with getting it open? There’s a guard above the gate on watch but he doesn’t have an option to open the gate. I’m not sure what to do as this is ruining my play through…

is there any chance you started playing (or you still playing) the game before it was completely patched to the latest version?

I started a new playthrough. I remember because I asked on the forums the other day whether or not I should play through the game again since I haven’t played in a long while and the people in the forums said I should. I deleted all the saves I had until there wasn’t a single saved game and then started a new game and the patch I started the new game on is 1.6.3 on PS4.

Maybe it was the dialogue choices I picked during interacting with the gate guard in the beginning of the game, I’m not sure. I can’t remember the first dialogue choice I picked but I failed it and he didn’t believe me so I picked a option and Henry threatens the gate guard and tells him if he doesn’t let him out, he would tell sir robard I think his name is. He lets me out and I rode the horse out and that was it. I came back later to do the miller quest to steal the 5 cloth things and the gate was closed.

I ran along the left wall outside the talmberg gate to the bridge and next to it is some stick looking things that I had to jump and jump to try and get up to the bridge and I finally got up and talked to the gate guard and he just tells me about the quest for stephanie and nothing else.

I exited off the bridge but I guess I’ll have to jump back up the sticks to bring stephanie all her dope stuff for the wedding.
