For some reason I can’t perform any combos when carrying a shortsword + shield, whilst at the same time I have zero problems performing combos with the longsword.
I gather this must be a bug?
Note: I’ve trained a lot with Bernard to have the highest strength & agility, 20 & 20, so that’s not the problem.
Can’t remember my exact system specs, but it has an i5 xxxxK with a GTX 970, and the game runs smoothly enough, so timing my strikes aint a problem - in other words I can easily do the consecutive strikes, and hence combos usually are easy for me, they for some reason just don’t work with the shortsword + shield, only for single weapons.
And yeah, I’ve got all the combos unlocked. Tested the simplest one first, i.e.: slash down left + thrust + thrust, and I can easily land the strikes and follow each one up, the combo just doesn’t trigger for some reason…
Is there a chance any of this will be fixed?
Weird, I know it was bugged in 1.3 but has been fixed for a long time now. The one you mentioned down left thrust thrust with a shield has to be done slower. Spamming the double thrust doesn’t work, ive had problems with that one.
I’m having same problem
When having sword and shield, I cannot do the riposte (automatic counter-atack after perfect block), while having sword alone, it works perfectly. I do not know if bug or feature…
My combos don’t work ripotse fine
Riposte works fine, it’s just the combos with the shield + shortsword that don’t work for some reason.
The easiest is supposed to be the “down left + thrust + thrust” but it just doesn’t work, no matter if you time it perfectly. Instead all you get is successive strikes that are often all blocked by the opponent.
With the longsword the same combo “down left + thrust + thrust” works just fine, and I can pull it off pretty much at will, hence there must be a bug in the game which causes it not to work for the shortsword + shield. However it seems the bug isn’t there for everyone, thus it apparently needs something to trigger it at some point in the playthrough of the game, and then when u save u are stuck with it throughout that playthrough.
Not all combos work with all kind of swords, though. The perk description states which weapons can use it. Maybe they changed it with the patch?
The easiest for me is stab left bottom right, I get that all the time. It’s hard to pull off the down left stab stab, though I have pulled it off several times on Benard but not in actual combat, same goes for the rest. But the Stab left bottom right I land very often against enemies with short sword and shield.
K it def doesn’t work, maybe I did it without shield. The stab left bottom right works fine though.
This particular combo does not work with a shield. There are some combos that can only be used if you have a free hand, i.e., no shield.
The two short-sword combos that do not work —and have, by design, never worked —with a shield are half-swording and double-stab. I think these are the only two
I’ve had the same experience as you: no combos when using shortsword + shield in KCD v.1.4.3 and 1.5 (didn’t test in 1.6 due to the patch mess). I wasn’t able to make combos either with Bernarnd, neither with low peasant bandits.
