Can't start the game anymore [PC]

I played the game for over 40 hours on steam and enjoyed it except loading times were a bit slow so I decided to move my game over to the SSD, at the same time I purchased “from the ashes” and “treasures of the past” dlcs. After having deleted it and reinstalled it on the SSD I couldn’t get the game started up. After the first windowed startup screen with the logo the entire screen goes all black instead of playing the intro. I can get up the steam overlay and the gforce experience overlay, so the screen is working, it is just all dark.

I figured the problem might be with the SSD (even though it is a new laptop) and reinstalled it back to the HDD. That didn’t work, same problem as before. I tried verifying integrity of game files, clearing steam download cache, deleting the game, restarting pc and installing it again, didn’t work. I deleted it again, turned off firewall and antivirus, installed it again, didn’t work. Deleted it again, removed msi afterburner, installed again, didn’t work. I tried updating my nvidia driver, didn’t work. I’ve now uninstalled steam, removed all files I could find, installed it again and I’m in the process of reinstalling KCD. If that doesn’t work, what will?

try resetting your gamesettings by renaming:
“profiles”
in Folder: c:\Users\%USERNAME%\Saved Games\kingdomcome

Thanks, I already tried removing that folder before reinstalling, are you saying I should try to rename it to just any random name other than “profiles”?

Ok. Please Keep in mind, to reset your GPU / GFX a full shutdown can help. Sometimes a simple reboot is not enough.

So I’ve tried starting the game again after the last reinstall, that didn’t work so I’ve changed the name of profiles to something else and I’ve also done a shut down of my PC several times since I started this process. Nothing seems to be working to get the game started again. I tried launching some other games before doing the steam reinstall just to be safe, several other games launched without problems.

Is there any way to un-steam the game I already bought instead of risking viruses with torrents?

I take it your SSD is external? could it be possible your parts can’t talk to each other correctly? formatted the same? just throwing it out there.

I use GoG and not had loading problems. Problems with GoG itself, but wiping and reinstalling cured that.

The operating system is on the SSD, it’s not external. I’m gonna do a reset of the PC, if that doesn’t work I’ll suspect there is something wrong with the DLCs and have them refunded.

could it be a bad DL for the DLC? so wipe & try a fresh DL?
are you using old saves or are they all 1.6?

Thanks for all the responses, I haven’t found out exactly what caused this but resetting my PC worked.

Seems like that only worked temporarily. I started up the game and there was no sound, I quit and tried to start again and was once again met by the black screen. I can actually remember the sound problem happening the last time too right before getting the black screen.

This has now happened for the 3rd time. Didn’t even get 40 hours in this time. No sound, quit game, restart, black screen. And I’m in the process of resetting my pc again. I sent a mail to warhorse at the same time of my last post, haven’t heard anything yet but these things can take some time. If only it was just any game I would try to get a refund or simply stop playing it, but it’s not so I can’t.

Im here to tell you that i have the exactly same problem as you. exactly the same and i have to resolve it in the same way as you, so if you find something relevant tell me please. I will do the same. I have written to the devolopers too, but i have got no answer yet. Something i can tell is you is that, the problem is not because the dlcs, because i have the same problem and i didnt purchase it. My problem started when i formatted my laptop. i was able to play before i had formatted it, now is impossible…

We hope we have a solution really soon, because i love this game and i don`t want to refund it.

Hello Northman, I have found the solution. In my case the problem was about my headset. I dont know why, but when I connected them by the jack, and not usb, the game doesnt work. However If i don`t connect it, the game works perfectly.
