Castles and locations that could inspire the game

What real world castles and locations would you like Kingdom Come to draw its inspiration from? If you have any ideas post yours below!

Since taking place in the Kingdom of Bohemia…
If you have a lot of time, take a look at this
http://www.hrady.cz/index.php?p=map_preview

check: “hrad” (=castle)
uncheck: “Chaty a chalupy” (=huts/hostels)
click: “Nastavit filtr” (=Set filter)
-> browse through all (at least I hope so) Czech castles

if you wish, here are some more options translated:
zachovalý=perfect state
chátrající=deteriorating
zřícenina=ruin
nepatrné zbytky zdí=fragments of walls
terénní náznaky=traces in the terrain
zaniklý=non-existent

zámek=château
tvrz=fortified house
věž=tower
mlýn=mill
sakrální památky=sacral monuments

most=bridge
pomník, památník=memorial
pevnost, bunkr=fortification/fort/bunker
skanzen= living history museum
hradiště=gord
ZOO, akvarium=Zoo, aquarium

technická památka=technical “relic”/monument/sight
přírodní scenerie=natural scenery
vodní plocha=water body
ostatní=miscellaneous

That’s pretty cool. But do the devs get inspiration from castles outside Czech republic? Like from Poland, Germany and Austria or from any other neighboring countries?

Smejki is in the dev team, so what he just said is probably what they get inspiration from :stuck_out_tongue:

That castle they used in The Princess Bride…

No, but serious when I was in Macendonia (FYROM) I went to that castle and it looked awesome.

There is this one too:

no comment.
but if we move our story there, we certainly would.

Real locations that translate nicely in the game would be awesome, but only if it looks good, using a location because of its a real location is bad, but probably preaching to the choir here :slight_smile: .

There are some great keeps and castles/ locations in your area so at least let it inspire the devvers who are making the world. From what is there now its going great!

Is certainly subjective, but I was Carcassonne been most impressed. Good combination between (town) fortress and fortifications. As a pure fortification I recommend Rothenburg od Tauber, authentic German Empire City from the 15th century. The castle “Merseburg” on Lake Constance in some sections still very well preserved from the 14th century. Even in the Czech Republic are impressive castles such as Eger or Karlstein Unfortunately castles was at most until the late Baroque continued to be built, so that the structures of earlier eras are barely visible. The standard castles from the 12th century, which are in ruins everywhere, come the reality of the early 15th century - before developing effective siege guns - probably the closest.

sorry me english…

Sorry for the multiple posts, can’t post more than two links at a time, but won’t even let me post two links.

I’ve been to this one in Kosovo:

castle lockenhaus
chateu schallaburg (some parts rennaisance)
castle dürnstein (ruin)
castle aggstein
castle falkenstein (mostly ruin)
castle grub (in german: burg grub - read it backwards :wink: )
castle greifenstein (burned down some years ago -.-)
castle lichtenstein (rebuilt, not original)
castle kreuzenstein (rebuilt, not original)
castle laxenburg
the “wasserburg” (watercastle) in heidenreichstein
all of these are in austria, not that far away from prague
and of course there are many wonderful castles in germany too

also there are many interesting crusader castles, many of them former templar castles on the way to the holy land.
The castle building reenactment in guedelon in france also probably has good input sources.

I would love to be able to visit these castle in the game. Where everything is brought back to life!

Hi. If you are interesting about czech castles and their history - there is the facebook page where you’ll find many photos of Bohemian castles and info in english. Page is still in progress. The author publish pictures from many of his trips because castles are his favourite hobby. So you can follow the page and even now you will found many notices about Hussites, the King Wenceslas IV. or The Emperor Sigismund and less or more known Lords of Bohemia. Next castles will approach. Page also publish many pictures from the czech landscape.

and are you a developer or game designer, or even map designer who can make such authoritative statements?

they’re going to use castles that existed during the time and location of the game, because first of all, they like accuracy, and secondly, anyone can do inaccurate fantasy stuff and that isn’t original or interesting.

so, yeah, posting castles from serbia isn’t going to help much.

I am the enthusiast in czech castle history. I am studying it for many years. I know many people interested in problematic (amateurs and even the expert archaeologists). I visited more than 200 castles in czech rep. only for last two years to collect their history and take photos of them for my collection. It is my hobby. I am watching this project from beginning and I have all released informations about it. Main characters mentioned before - the King Wenceslas, the Emperor Sigismund etc. - played also the great part in history of many castles from Bohemian Kingdom. I am only recommending page where peoples like I can find many informations from verified resources in english. Authors of the game know much more better which castles they’ll use in next parts of the game. But for you I can say that it could be for example: Nový hrad u Kunratic Castle - the place where the King Wenceslaus died after the defenestration. It could be Zlenice Castle which is the “neighbour” of the presented location (Act I.) or Týnec nad Sázavou (same case) or Český Šternberk (same case). All these mentioned castles are connected with the history which the game is presenting. There are many possible places to use.
